Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere - Lost S1 Fanmix for <lj site="livejournal.com" user="falafel_musing

I present with my royal apologies my late offering! Blame university crap :/ anyway, I think some fic will come off that prompt, too, but I need to decide what to settle on since I have a few ideas. Meanwhile, please former [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee Queen [livejournal.com profile] falafel_musings, accept my musical take on the S1 ensemble. (Un)fortunately (?) my walkman and Hurley's aren't really on the same wave, some of the choices were done for pure crack value and there isn't Arzt or Ethan... but there's Rose AND Vincent! ;) I'll explain everything under the cut anyway so don't fear.

1. Shambala - Three Dog Night [Hurley]

Everyone is helpful, everyone is kind
On the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky, everyone is so kind
On the road to Shambala

How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?

I do realize that it isn't the most original choice but alas, as I said, me and Hurley's walkman aren't really on the same length so I couldn't choose anything more suited to his taste. And if I hear this song I think HURLEY!!, so..

2. With A Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles [Charlie]

What do I do when my love is away.
(Does it worry you to be alone)
How do I feel by the end of the day
(Are you sad because you're on your own)
No, I get by with a little help from my friends,
I get high with a little help from my friends,
I'm gonna to try with a little help from my friends

Well, he does have a Beatles tattoo, but that would have been obvious ;) I think this one just feels very much like S1 Charlie, especially in relation to Claire and whatnot. And it's a positive song and well, come on, he was positive.

3. Respect - Aretha Franklin [Rose]

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Find out what it means to me
R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Take care, TCB

Okay, this is the first (with the following one) done just for pure crack value but well, come on. As soon as I had the mental image I had to put it even if the lyrics aren't very Rose-ish, or at least not as the image of Rose singing is. If I make sense.

4. Delilah - Queen [Vincent]

Oh my oh my oh my you're unpredictable
You make me so very happy
When you cuddle up and go to sleep beside me
And then you make me slightly mad
When you pee all over my Chippendale suite

You take over my house and home
You even try to answer my telephone
Delilah you're the apple of my eye

Pure crack value #2. Riiiight, this is about a cat, but let's overlook just that little peeve of no importance. As long as you put a dog instead of a cat isn't it just Vincent? No? *hides*

5. About a Boy - Patti Smith [Walt]

about a boy
beyond it all
about a boy
beyond it all

I stood among them
I stood alone
boy boy
just a boy
just a little boy
just a little boy
who will never grow

Uhm, this one just said Walt to me. Even if he was already grown, but well, she talks in metaphors.

6. Hollow Years - Dream Theater [Micheal]

Carry me to the shoreline
Bury me in the sand
Walk me across the water
And maybe you'll understand

Once the stone
You're crawling under
Is lifted off your shoulders
Once the cloud that's raining
Over your head disappears
The noise that you'll hear
Is the crashing down of hollow years

Usually I kind of hate Dream Theater, but this is the only song of theirs I really like, maybe because it's not their style at all, it has a lovely music and I was desperate for finding Mike a song. The beginning actually may seem off but those two verses seemed good for me.

7. Accidentally Like a Martyr - Warren Zevon [Jin]

The days slide by
Should have done, should have done, we all sigh
Never thought I'd ever be so lonely
After such a long, long time
Time out of mind

We made mad love
Shadow love
Random love
And abandoned love
Accidentally like a martyr
The hurt gets worse and the heart gets harder

This would be more or less In Translation time. Or that's how I see it.

8. Slow Dancing in a Burning Room - John Mayer [Sun]

We're goin down
And you can see it too
We're goin down
And you know that we're doomed
My dear
We're slow dancing in a burnin room

This is such an elegant song. And I think it's very S1 Sun-ish.

9. Janie's Got a Gun - Aerosmith [Kate]

Janie's got a gun
Janie's got a gun
Her whole world's come undone
From lookin' straight at the sun
What did her daddy do?
What did he put you through?
They said when Janie was arrested
they found him underneath a train
But man, he had it comin'
Now that Janie's got a gun
she ain't never gonna be the same

Run away, run away from the pain yeah yeah

Erm. I wanted to put Run Baby Run, but it wasn't that fitting after all and then I remembered this one. Leave out my lovely nickname, put a Katie in it, figure that it's starting a fire instead of firing a gun and that's sort of it. Right, might be a crack-ish choice but not that much ;)

10. Nothing Else Matters - Metallica [Claire]

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

I'm not too big on Metallica myself, but I wanted to give Claire hardcore taste because she was and it's the most hardcore I can get. Also, I think it's fitting.

11. Just Like a Woman - Charlotte Gainsbourg [Shannon]

Nobody feels any pain
Tonight as I stand inside the rain
Ev'rybody knows
That Baby's got new clothes
But lately I see her ribbons and her bows
Have fallen from her curls.
She takes just like a woman, yes, she does
She makes love just like a woman, yes, she does
And she aches just like a woman
But she breaks just like a little girl

Now, this song just screams Shannon to me. But this isn't the Dylan version, for how much I love it. This one is from the I'm Not There soundtrack and it's Charlotte Gainsbourg singing it and do I love it. She has such a delicate voice and a bit of that lovely French accent that makes it even more suited ;)

12. My Back Pages - Bob Dylan [Sayid]

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now

This has always been my default Sayid song. First one I choose ;)

13. God's Gonna Cut You Down - Johnny Cash [Sawyer]

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler, the gambler, the back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down

Right, I'm not wrong if I think S1 Sawyer as soon as I hear this?

14. Adam Raised a Cain - Bruce Springsteen [Jack]

In the summer that I was baptized,
My father held me to his side,
As they put me to the water,
He said how on that day I cried.
We were prisoners of love, a love in chains,
He was standin' in the door, I was standin' in the rain,
with the same hot blood burning in our veins,
Adam raised a Cain

If you thought you were going to escape the ritual Springsteen song you were SO wrong ;) uhm, well, this one is IMHO the best song ever written regarding father/son conflicting relationships with another one of Bruce's which is Independence Day. But this one is way angrier and well, it's beautiful, period.

15. Two - Ryan Adams [Boone]

And i'm fractured from the fall
And i wanna go home
But it takes two when it used to take one
It takes two when it used to take only one
Well, my money's no good when i'm up to no good
No good ever comes from it, honest
I got a really good heart
I just can't catch a break
If i could i'd treat you like you wanted me to i promise
But i'm fractured from the fall
And i wanna go home

I don't think I need to explain why this one was just perfect. Do I? ♥

16. The Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson [Locke]

On soft gray mornings widows cry
The wise men share a joke;
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
But gentle pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king.

I chose this one for pretty much one reason, which would be that it's the most crazy song I ever heard my whole life. In the good sense of the word, surely, even if progressive rock isn't exactly my favorite cup of tea. But it's crazy, weird and creepy so fine for Locke I guess. Also, this court looks totally like the island to me ;)

17. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere - Neil Young

Everybody seems to wonder
What it's like down here
I gotta get away
from this day-to-day
running around,
Everybody knows
this is nowhere.

Everybody, everybody knows
Everybody knows.

And for a closure, one of my favorite Neil Young songs, a sure lighter note than King Crimson and well, the title was just perfect.

*phew* Done! *lays at the Queen's feet*
