Extra that goes outside the list:

Congratulations, US. I'm not in the habit of blathering about politics that aren't my own but considering who was the alternative, congratulations. Also, just one thing even if it's late and probably not relevant anymore: dear Mitt Romney, Italy's economy is fucked because all the policies adopted here have *not* been the same as Obama's in the US. Check your facts.
That stated, on to less worldwide things.
1. First thing goes first: GASLIGHT ANTHEM ARE IMMENSE. Seriously I so don't regret the Milan trip - it was *amazing* and I got first row and they're as awesome as I thought they'd be AND THEY PLAYED FILM NOIR DSFKDSHFKSH I CAN'T COMPREHEND HOW AWESOME THAT CONCERT WAS. Not to mention the Wolverine action figures on the speakers - nerds, NERDS! - and the incense going on so that it'd cover the fake-smoke-they-always-use-in-concert smell. NO SERIOUSLY. ALSO BRIAN FALLON YOU'RE SO CUTE IN PERSON I DIED. HE SMILES ALL THE TIME I CAN'T.
LOOK AT HOW LOVELY HE IS.

mollivanders you're in for a treat when you go see them. ;) Aaand I don't have time for full reviews but there might be one later. That said: I LOVE THESE PEOPLE OKAY.
2. So I'm doing
mini_wrimo again. Hopefully I'll use it to finish stuff I have to finish rather than starting stuff at random that is never going to see the light of day.
3. GISHWHES killed my soul, but it was awesomecakes. Except, do never, ever do something stupid like reading The Raven to a crow. Or read anything to a crow. Stupid birds. I might post some of the pictures at some point, but ugh seriously it was a lot crazier than last year. I don't dare imagine what Misha is going to cook up next time...
4. Since we're talking Misha: random-ass-sort-of-late-but-not-for-the-last-episode reviews of SPN 8x05 and 8x06.
a) Starting with 8x05: so, while he's still no Balthazar in the scale of my affection for Gray People Who Are Friends With One Of The People In My OTP, Benny can stay as far as I'm concerned. While the backstory was kind of seriously cliched (not to mention that I'm 99% sure that Ben Edlund has read GRRM's Fevre Dream because seriously, that book has VAMPIRES ON BOATS ON THE MISSISSIPPI with a uber-boss who controls all other vamps and who ends up fighting against a reformed vamp who's bffs with a human who is all no frills and get the job done - like, come on!) I still like it better if the dude is not straight-up evil. I like morally gray people, I like that Dean got himself a friend (seriously, when your only connections are a) your brother, b) ONE bff, c) your putative father who's also dead and when you were THIRTY when you met said bff in b), regardless of the rest - well, I'm glad he can connect with ANYONE at all, even as fucked up as it gets), I like that he seems straight and I like that even if he wasn't on board with Cas going along in Purgatory he didn't let him bite it.Dean was grateful, oh so much. So as far as I'm concerned, we're good. He can hang out with the rest of the gang.
b) Dean being like 'I CAN'T EVEN WITH YOU TWO' in Purgatory while Cas and Benny argued about Cas not being Benny's aunt was hilarious. Lol. Can I have the odd three-people spin-off where they bicker the entire time and Dean is like 'FUCK WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?'
c) I'd have liked moar Cas and moar Purgatory, but I get that they're doing a few scenes but *good*. If it means that then he gets moar screen time later, then I'm cool.
d) I like this Sam and Amelia thing more now than I did in the beginning. She's cool. Even if the flashbacks being shot like a Pushing Daises episode are kind of distracting.
e) Also I still like how they're using the flashbacks as if they're PTSD triggered in most cases. I love everythingabouthowtheychosetodoit.
f) Okay, going into 8x06: I *do* get Sam's resentment at Dean being bffs with a vampire - and I'm glad they didn't handwave the Amy thing because seriously, that was fucked and I still think it was badly written, but whaaatever. I *don't* want him to off Benny without even hearing the guy out or being that set on being the person staking him though - really, it's just that I want Dean to have a sort of decent relationship with other people so hard that unless the guy is out to betray him (and I don't think he is) I don't want him to die and cause ulterior angst. Especially if Sam offs him.
g) Now: I still don't care about Garth either way - I don't hate his guts but he's not my favorite ever, but the nice thing about the dude is that apparently there's someone doing hunting business who *can* do Normal People Things. Like getting decent hotels and hugging people because it's a nice thing and TALK FEELINGS OUT and generally not being a repressed ball of drama. He can be a therapist for the category. I don't mind the whole taking Bobby's place part - as he put it, someone *had* to - and I liked when they made the point that Bobby was important for the entire community of hunters rather than just the two of them. I didn't exactly like that they had to *push* it - like, idk, Garth using Bobby's catchphrases or his hat etcetera. It also might be that I still think that killing Bobby off at all was a stupid-ass decision in the first place, but not going into it or I'll be over next month.
h) It's also interesting that Dean can apparently say what he thinks or feels just when he's under supernatural influence. But fuuuck that speech *hurt* (even if I don't really get why he'd think that Cas let him down if as per 8x02 he feels guilty about Cas not having gotten out of Purgatory, but I suppose it might be cleared up in future episodes). And the thing is that both he and Sam have a point - from Dean's POV he's totally justified to feel that way about Sam never trying to search for him, but Sam *did* think that he was dead and was without resources to research, and his side of the situation is entirely understandable. You can't begrudge Dean for wanting to hang out with someone who hasn't let him down yet (according to his mindset) even if he's a vampire and you can't begrudge Sam for running/wanting to leave hunting behind/not trusting said vampire dude. Still, since these two idiots obviously NEVER TELL THIS SHIT TO EACH OTHER WHEN THEY'RE IN FULL POSSESSION OF THEMSELVES, I can feel the angst coming over like a ton of bricks.
i) Side story: I watched this ep after reading that masterpiece of 'I can't even believe someone had the guts to write this' of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter on the train. The moment they came up with the Confederate soldier I started snickering and wondering if there was some vampire behind it. /o\
l) In conclusion: I liked both of these, 8x05 especially but this one was great too - and miles better than both previous Garth episodes. (Also, worth noting that I was livetweeting while I watched, the moment I saw Garth's attire I was like 'dude you trying to be Chuck Norris' and a second later Dean calls him Chuck Norris. Me and Dean are spirit souls, dammit.) In further conclusion: everything I've seen this season is better than 80% of S7 put together and of a good half of S6. Carver ilu. See you all next week when I *think* a real review post will finally happen. I'm not spoiled/I haven't seen any promos but I know generally what happens and it'll cause a lot of flailing, I think.
5. Non TV related and concerts related: Mumford and Sons are coming to Rome in March (SCORE FOR ME - TOTALLY GOING) and Bon Jovi after finally learning that Italy is Not A Place To Be Feared are coming to Milan in June! MORE CONCERTS FOR ME! And less money for me I fear, but you only live once I suppose.
6. I finally settled things re my study plan. Which means I can do my Masters thesis with the professor I want. And I didn't even have to argue with the office (too much). I think the Apocalypse *is* coming after all.
7. The indecent number of spam comments LJ left me this week is mind-boggling. I haven't had that many in ages. :/
8. Aaand that's all there is for the moment. Hopefully I'll have some half-decent concert review up at some point soon, along with other stuff. And I'll manage to update properly.

Date: 2012-11-09 09:18 am (UTC)YEAH BUT THE ITEM SAID 'READ THE RAVEN TO A CROW', not to a raven. DDDDD: crows are horrible and insufferable and ungrateful. D:
Seriously. I don't care *who* Dean decides to be friends with as far as they're straight when he's concerned. Like, come on, we're talking about mr. 'you don't need friends there's family for that', PLEASE LET HIM HAVE ONE FOR ONCE. And yeah Sam would probably do that just because and I can totally see how *great* this would turn out. Ugh. Just no. DDD:
Also yessss I totes read Fevre Dream! :D it's an awesome book. And VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE. And I had a crush on Joshua of horribly big sizes. It's not my favorite non-ASOIAF GRRM book (that'd be The Armageddon Rag which is just insanely awesome) but it totally ranks high. Sortofrealisticvampirenovels ftw!
Yeah the point was that in my uni you can't have a specific thesis advisor if you didn't do a class with them, and apparently I *couldn't* take a class with her but it was sorted out and now I can and it's good enough for me really. Took me two years to manage it, but at least.. ;)

Date: 2012-11-09 11:34 am (UTC)Oh, wow. WOW. No, just no. *goes ballistic with you*
I don't care *who* Dean decides to be friends with as far as they're straight when he's concerned.
This. Let the guy have a buddy he's NOT related to, let him have a taste of normal life, of normal human cameraderie, just this once. I understand that Sam's mad about Amy, but has he totally forgotten Lenore?
VAMPIRES DON'T SPARKLE.
Damn straight. Now, I'm wondering if Sera Gamble didn't read Fevre Dream, too, what with the events of "Bloodlust." Lenore and her tribe are very close in spirit to Joshua and his group. Lenore would have loved Joshua's ideas. And his special elixir. Hmm . . .
Don't know how I missed it, but I'll have to read Armageddon Rag. If it comes with a Janie recommendation, it's gotta be good! :)

Date: 2012-11-09 11:48 am (UTC)THIS. Patience if the buddy isn't a normal person, but then again I doubt Dean can ever be friends with a normal person. Let him have it please DDDD: I physically need this entire Benny thing not to turn out awful. Can we? Please?
... SHE COULD HAVE. I didn't think about Bloodlust because I saw it before and in this one the parallels were a lot more blatant, but Joshua could have been a general inspiration. ;)
Armageddon Rag is *awesome*. It's, like, a washed-up music journalist ends up having to stop the Apocalypse which is being triggered through a rock group named NAZGUL out of everything and in the midst of that he goes to meet all his former friends he used to hang out with in the seventies and wonders where his generation went wrong and the summary looks totally weird but he totally pulls it off and I LOVE IT FIERCELY. Sadly I think it's the least known GRRM book ever which is a pity. I'll recommend it forever.
also I have a crush on the rock journalist but THAT'S NO NEWSno subject
Date: 2012-11-09 12:05 pm (UTC)O_o Whoa. Way to hit the nail on the head, Janie! ON. THE. HEAD. Wow.
a washed-up music journalist ends up having to stop the Apocalypse which is being triggered through a rock group named NAZGUL
"a rock group named NAZGUL"
NAZGUL?
*RUNS to library*
Woohoo! Thanks for the rec!

Date: 2012-11-09 12:29 pm (UTC)YES. IT'S NAMED NAZGUL. AND IT HAS LOTR THEMED SONGS. XDD Let me know what you think about it if/when you find/read it because I've been dying to discuss it and I'm the only person I know who read it, lol. ;)
