Charlie wants to do things. Desmond thinks he'll die. Charlie assures him that he won't. Desmond won't take chances. And so on.

Errrr. Canon-considering, I'd say Des? Though the other way would have worked too. HOW DO YOU ANSWER THIS WHEN CANON DOESN'T GIVE ME CHOICES.
5. The happiest plausible happily-ever-after I can think of for them.
Desmond manages not to let Charlie close himself into the station, Charlie is VERY grateful *nudgenudge*, Desmond stops getting visions, the boat is not Penny's but when she comes rescuing people she's especially grateful, and Claire gets on the boat too and they do the huge open family thing, and Charlie keeps on showing Des how grateful he is.
