janie_tangerine: (JUST KEEP SWIMMING)
1) hiiiiii everyone again <3

So: I'm currently back from outside-country vacations + opera festival in here, but I'm doing the annual going-to-the-grandmother's-place-where-no-bookshop-exists trip until September 5th so I'll be back either then or the 6th, depends on how dead asleep I am when I get back home. Vacations + opera festival were glorious after seeing William Tell staged as a socialist opera I think I can't ask for anything more from life. The no-bookshop place won't be half as good but I had it excellent until now so I'm not going to complain here...

2) I've sent all the postcards for everyone who asked :D sadly I had to send them from Italy when I got back because I didn't manage to find a running postal office when I needed it in both Vienna or Paris (go me seriously) so they'll probably get to you like a month from now, but I swear I tried /o\

3) I'm probably going to post decent pictures when I'm back, but for now, have a look at this ridiculousness I bought in Paris. Or better, I just bought the doll, I found the mug in a comic books shop near my place, but I apparently found the staging absolutely worth the effort.

4) I've managed to see the first two Breaking Bad episodes even if like a week late every time, so I'll leave a few thoughts here - nothing too elaborate because I need to finish packing and I still need to process them all, but if I don't do it now I won't do it later, so.

spoilerssss )

5) Apparently a ridiculous crush on Mads Mikkaelsen completely snuck up on me while watching Hannibal because in Paris I ended up going to watch this historical flick where he was the main actor and which was also in French without subtitles, and while I can read French, hearing it spoken is entirely different...totally worth it though. From what I've understood, obviously /o\ also, the other highlight was going to watch Now You See Me because MARK RUFFALO (and I had missed it over here) and clearly I got the ending twist two minutes into that movie because I recognized Mark Ruffalo FROM THE SHOULDERS when he was wearing the hoodie in the beginning, so much for actually putting some brains into guessing the plot, but other than that it was a pretty cool movie and there's nothing better than starting your birthday looking at his face so it was all good. :D

6) Oh, and I started reading Discworld. I feel like I'm screwed because I soooo didn't need a 30+ books series but I knew I'd probably like it and I'm at one book done and two half started and I'm loving it, so I'm apparently very screwed. Go me?

7) With this I'll go catch up with what I can of lj plus messages I haven't managed to answer until now and then I'll go pack - hopefully when I'm back next month I'll manage to get back on top of actually reading the flist properly again...
janie_tangerine: (asoiaf >> SWORD IN THE DARKNESSS)
1. ... Er, hello world! I suppose everyone has given me up for MIA, right? /o\ damn, I don't think I've ever spent this long without updating. Or checking the FL, ugh. I swear I'll be up to date asap. Anyway, since I disappeared for two months, have a run-through of what's been going on here.

2. So, point is: I ended up swamped in finals-related cramming which went good for half and bad for the other half (because two were passed the way I wanted, the other two... one I had to skip because I caught some bothersome form of influenza and the other because even with the cramming I wasn't nowhere near ready for it), so now I have three left. Then it happened that apparently the one class I have to attend this semester is canceled and I won't know what to do about it until tomorrow, but my former supervisor for the bachelor's degree is making me do the master's thesis with her so at least there's something. And this entire deal pretty much ate up more of my free time than I'd have liked, so I ended up having to drop any social network where it doesn't take you more than five seconds to post. /o\

3. Also: if anyone has read about election results, B. came in *second*, the third biggest party's target seems to be 'let's make everyone look horrible by not agreeing with a government with the first so next elections we win!', and obviously the lovely people at the left party managed to get first but without enough votes to actually rule, so in the end I'm pretty sure they'll elect the new Pope before we have a government. Yay. If anyone around can guess, I've been wanting to cry hysterically about it since it happened. (I'm also seriously thinking about going out of the country as soon as I have the degree and I find any kind of job somewhere else, but that's not happening until graduation which isn't happening until October at best, so.) Also, two of B.'s trials are ending soon and he organizes a march against the magistrature - I'm not even sure I can stand another six months of him being relevant.

4. ... damn the new LJ update page is as horrible as I remember it, but you can't switch anymore, right? Damn. Okay, back on track.

5. I'm actually caught up with tv shows (okay, nope, I'm caught with SPN and the vampire porn, I had to drop the rest for the moment) but I haven't had time for any reaction post whatsoever so I'll see if after I'm as caught up with the f-list as I'm going to be I'll manage to do some huge meta post for everything I haven't reacted about. For now, in short: I'm not exactly getting what the vampire porn is trying to accomplish but Damon looks prettier than usual so whatever and SPN hasn't been this good in ages as far as I'm concerned, so nothing to complain on that side.

6. Oh, right, I'm also feeling totally conflicted about GOT. In the sense, I want to watch it for some things, but knowing what awaits me at the end makes me wish it aired next year. Or ten years from now. Anyone who read the books knows the deal. One thing that was very much true, though, is that if the posters are the best HBO can do then they'd be better off if they hired me. Or any person around here who can use photoshop, because my first reaction was 'damn give me the selective coloring tool and make me get rid of the blue'.

7. Concerts speaking: I'm seeing Mumford & Sons in a week and The National are coming in June! (The day after I'm supposed to be in Milan for Bon Jovi, but I'll manage somehow.) Also there's Neil Young coming at the end of July, and while the venue sucks I'll probably go because who knows when it's going to happen again. And there's Bruce Springsteen in July too, so at least I'm doing good with going to concerts this year.

8. Also: I totally failed at Christmas cards even if I had half of them ready /o\ in the next days I'm going to send belated PMs because I didn't even manage to make a thank you post for the one I received and then I'm going to see what to do with it. If you receive random cards in the middle of April or May from me, it's me being extremely late.

9. GRRM speaking: I've also apparently and masochistically ended up getting crazy into Wild Cards, aka The Other Huge Project That GRRM Has Been Doing For Ages But I Didn't Know About It, which I probably should have avoided for my own mental sanity. But I'm apparently in 'DAMN IT I'M IN WESTEROS WITHDRAWAL' mode, and I saw the first book reprinted and I thought the plot was interesting. Clearly I got hooked, and then I promptly found out that on twenty-one books, five are in print and the rest is not. Good news is that I got a Kindle for Christmas and I found a torrent for the e-books, so I'm covered, but you don't want to know the pain that it's been finding ten on twenty-one. The problem is that the eleven I'm missing are priced too much for paperbacks that were out in the early nineties, but I'll probably buy them all. Very much eventually. Anyway, there's obviously no fandom whatsoever for it, so at least I'm saved from possible 'OMG SHINY NEW FANDOM' shenanigans, since I have no time for it. D:

10. Oh, and in the mess above described in the first point, it happened that a guy who could pass for Richard Madden's little brother except with brown hair/eyes exists and he SOMETIMES, and with that I mean 'two times each year', appears in my university. And I was sitting behind the guy during the only written final I had this round. I'm going to spare you the reactions to finding out the guy's existence - they were mostly the kind you overgrow after fourteen, but clearly the one time I run into a guy with whom I'd totally consider trying to flirt (and I'm a total fail at flirting and related) he shows up twice and then I don't see him around anymore. *facepalm* Help. Obviously not having crushed on people at fourteen is showing up now. Ah well.

11. Okay, that was what's going on with me. Soooo tell me what's up with you all? I haven't managed to check the FL also because at some point I fell behind with TV and I didn't want to risk spoilers, and I'm not sure that I'll see everything that I missed because LJ only lets me go back so much :/ I'll try to go check individual journals instead, but meanwhile if something happened with you tell me/link me? I missed LJ, I want to get back into the swing of things. <3

1. Leave a comment to this post, specifically saying that you would like a letter.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.

I got the letter E.

4. GAME OF THRONES IS BACK TODAY! :DD or well, tomorrow for me, but OMG I CAN'T DEAL. Expect flailing posts at some point tomorrow afternoon. And after I ran into [I mean LOOK AT LORAS' FACE OMG AND HER FACE I CAN'T] I might have had an attack of utter, deep flail. Gosh, if that's in episode one and I really do watch it in the uni's courtyard no one is ever going to talk to me casually ever again because there'll be scary squeeing on my side. I can't waaait.

5. And after this word-vomiting post, I'll go and try to finish my 7x17 coda fic which I've started last week and whose ending I need to figure out. Or better, I need to figure out how to get to the ending in a way that I actually like. Hopefully it's going to happen before the hiatus is over...

1. So yesterday LJ didn't let me answer to any comment if my answer was longer than five lines in the comment box. *facepalm* Dear LJ, are you letting me catch up at some point? Thanks, me. My icon represents what I'd like to do if I could meet those hackers, though tbh I'm also using it because it's gorgeous.

2. Porn battle started. I've been spending the last three hours writing random ASOIAF fills just to see if I have a handle on the characters. I feel like I'm doing something wrong because they lack rolling heads and utter angst, though a couple I've been eyeing are good for angstfesting. Right now I have a couple for both my main ships, let's see if this evening I like them enough to post them.. also why the heck I'm eyeing Theon/Robb prompts, I DON'T EVEN SHIP THAT

3. Let's give that meme a boost.

four books. which is good. )

4. I didn't need a reminder of how awesome Misha Collins is, but this is so great that I can't even. That man has no right to be real. Stop ruining men for me, Misha. Except.. no, keep on doing it. I'll get over it and I can bask in your awesomeness.

5. Sometime this week I will upload the Bon Jovi concert pics. And Slash's concert pics (or: at least Janie scored two good ones this month).

6. Sirens ends today. Hear me weeping. Also, I decided I'm watching GoT while at my grandmother's in the second part of the month - I'll be internet-less and bored out of my mind, so at least I'll be entertained.

7. That stated, I'll go ponder on my fills and answering the backload of comments that I had to ignore for the entire week courtesy of Russian hackers. *glares and waves*

five foods! )

2. I finished A Dance With Dragons. I'll make a detailed reaction post this evening. I'm still feeling positively mind fucked in the good way. Also my favorite POV was someone that never in a million years I'd have thought could be my favorite POV. That still boggles me more than anything else.

3. I'm caught up with Leverage! The episode with the Van Gogh painting was positively awesome/adorable. The last one aired was imo the crackiest crack that show ever cracked. But it was good fun, nothing to say against that. XD

4. I have another round at the dentist's tomorrow. I just hope he decides that everything is going fine and that he doesn't go digging around there again.

5. Meanwhile I'll go finishing editing fic I'd have finished editing a week ago if not for the dental mess, and to go get myself a concert ticket. The ADWD reaction post is hopefully arriving later. And maybe then I'll catch up with all the comments I didn't catch up with during the LJ downtime yesterday. :|

1. So. Last month my teeth start hurting and I get headaches. I figure it's wisdom teeth and don't go to the dentist's because I had exams. Today I finally managed to go to the dentist's. It was a cavity. Pretty freaking deep. I think he had to yank half of the tooth off though I couldn't swear on that. Note to self: next time, fuck exams and just go. I don't even want to know what he did specifically. Anyway, obviously it means that yesterday I was too out of it to answer comments or anything, so I guess I'll catch up at some point soon. But ouch seriously. At least I don't have a dentist phobia or it'd have been a problem.

2.

six places! )

3. Books-wise, I started A Dance with Dragons but since I had teeth related headaches I didn't last until page 100 at the first round. I think I'll take it slow or as slow as I can, I don't want to just be DONE and not have any more for the next six years. who am I kidding I also read the last Stephen King one since finally it was out on paperback (confirms my theory that he should do more not-supernatural stuff) and Josh Ritter's first novel (which was lovely but could have been longer). Now I'm also bringing around Year of the Flood because I can't go read ADWD while in line at the post office and it was high time I read that one.

4. TV-wise, I need to catch up with the last two Leverage eps. On the other side, I've been watching Sirens and it's awesome. It makes me ridiculously happy. And Richard Madden is delicious. I'm terribly sad that Brit shows only have six episodes for season though. I don't want it going away in just another two episodes. :(

5. I think it's high time I go through Bon Jovi pics, now that I fixed the problems at point one. Wait for the longest concert review ever or close to that. And now I shall be catching up with comments and edit stuff. And possibly write some of the D/C bigbang fic, if I get around to it.

1. Bon Jovi was glorious. Like, GLORIOUS. (Two words: DRY COUNTY. I still don't compute that.) Post with pics/concert review shall follow shortly, but atm I feel way too crappy for anything that long. Or, I think it's a combination of not-really-sleeping for twelve hours in a train cabin with a seventeen degrees AC and spending another four hours on another train with the same kind of AC while the temperature outside was over thirty and of getting burned while walking around, but since I've been back I've been feeling like crap. And I get random headaches. I'm pretty sure it was the AC, but anyway, I've been writing this whole thing in breaks so I can't go sorting pics and stuff right now. STILL IT WAS SO WORTH IT OMG BON JOVI.

2. Apparently the Dark Tower adaptation isn't happening for now. Or at least, apparently not with the people attached to the project at the moment. And er, I'm totally not sorry about it because there wasn't anything about it which was getting me even remotely excited, from Javier Bardem to the format itself. let's not talk about the Eddie rumors shall we. I'll be here hoping that HBO sees how well Game of Thrones did and picks it up. Or that someone else with better ideas picks it up because either you do it well or I don't need it to happen.

3. Meme day three. Let's see how much slower I can manage to be with this.

4. So, while in Udine and after I realized I had seen everything I had to except for museums that were closed, I found myself a park bench and finished A Feast for Crows while waiting for [livejournal.com profile] lasamy to get into town. Clearly I managed to burn an arm and half of my neck because it was quite sunny and I should know better, but anyway, I'm done with that one.

thoughts and stuff )

I have A Dance with Dragons, by the way. Will start it asap.

5. Okay, I've been doing this entry in chunks for half of this afternoon/evening so I guess I'll cut this here and hope that tomorrow I feel like staring at a screen for more than twenty minutes. Also because I need to inflict some Bon Jovi related gushing. *is still ecstatic*

1. So, second final went exactly opposite first final, which means that I couldn't have aced it more if I tried. Now if the third goes as the second, it might be awesome.

2. I'm seeing Bon Jovi in two weeks. ITEM ONE FROM MY BUCKET LIST ABOUT TO BE CROSSED. :DDD

3. Now, since I'm having finals I'm like, I shouldn't watch TV. Which doesn't mean I haven't seen Leverage, which is damn good to have back. Also, summer show! It's nice to have something to look forward during the summer. The premiere was lovely for team interactions, but I didn't exactly got involved in the scam. This week was good even if not awesomeness level, but I liked the whole set up a lot. Which also means that my icon doesn't mean that I actually watched Game of Thrones - will do that after finals because it needs my full attention.

3. BUT, since I couldn't resist and I needed a break, I spent the weekend reading A Clash of Kings.

4. There might be fic coming sometime tomorrow. Maybe. If I can edit some things. Hopefully I will. Also it took me half an hour to write all that ASOIF stuff, which means it's 1.30 AM, which means the rest I had planned for this entry will be in the next one because I can barely see straight after reading, uuuhm, like, 600 pages in ten hours. I take my reading very seriously, don't I.

janie_tangerine: (supernatural castiel 6.0)
Or, this is where I rec you a bunch of stuff I read in the last two weeks. Premise: it's probably all Dean/Cas. I don't even remember if I saved stuff for other pairings. First, random news.

1) Not so good: my first final is eating my soul. I put it first just because it's the one I feel less motivated about and I want it out of my way, but between the industrial revolution and Galileo (who is seriously making me grow respect for anyone studying physics because seriously, so beyond me) and my teacher being apparently the kind who wants to 'make you reason' rather than starting from the books, I'm wanting to weep in frustration. I'm okay with reasoning. It's just that I don't care about half of what I should know and I barely get the other half. Ah well, if I blow it I can always try again in September, right.

2) In very good news: I opened my Dark Tower hardbacks at random after years of not touching them and I found money in both. On one side I'm kicking myself because seriously, forgetting money inside books was something I did when I was twelve and I didn't need money in the first place. On the other side, it means I can now avoid touching my savings account when I get my next batch of expenses, so I'll just be happy. XD

3) In awesome news: my Dark Tower shirt from RedBubble.com (the place where they lovingly craft and tenderly package shirts) arrived and it's amazing. I want to wear it forever. And I want to marry whoever runs that site and shipped it in a week and a half making me pay five euros for the shipping instead of the usual ten with a three week wait.

4) And after saddling you all with my stuff, I'm giving you a bunch of recs! Most is D/C, most is fic. I'll put the first two here and the rest under a cut.

Supernatural, Dean/Castiel

a) The Shape of Flight by [livejournal.com profile] destina;
Maybe there's something better down this road than all the roads before it. ; Dean/Castiel, Sam. PG, 2,142 words, no warnings, set post 6x22

There's a lot I loved about this. It tells a complete story with a relatively short length, it's written in second person POV and it's done extremely well (and I love myself some second person POV), it provides a great take on the 6x22 aftermath and the writing itself is just gorgeous, with everyone being perfectly IC.

b) Two colors by [livejournal.com profile] fossarian;
Dean gives Castiel what he wants, and then he gives a little more.Dean/Castiel, PG13, 2300 words, set after 6x22; no warnings.

Okay, this is hands down one of the best codas to the finale I've read until now. And in the ambiguity department it's probably my favorite. The only way I can define it is creepily sweet - it doesn't make sense probably, but if you read it, it does. The characterizations are spot-on, I love this take on God!Cas, and you'll have to read it three times to realize how complex it is - it's so layered, you miss things on the first read. The imagery is great and I just love everything it chooses to be. It doesn't wrap things neatly in a bow and fix everything, it so doesn't, but I just love how many things about both Dean and Castiel it says.

5) I'm almost done editing my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang story. One week later than stated, but see point one. Now I'll just take the evening off and do the one for the Balthazar exchange, then I'm writing the dc_everafter one between this stupid final and the other and then I'll get started on the Dean/Cas bigbang at some point after July 11th. And I'll try to finish something else in between, one that I should have finished a year ago especially. Oh fic, why can't I just spend my time writing you.

6) Also, I started reading Game of Thrones. I probably won't finish it before finals are over, and I'm also very scared of having done something very stupid since apparently no one is safe and I tend to take it badly (aka: cry for four hours with people asking me who died in RL) if fictional people I like are killed off, but then again I wanted to give it a try. I didn't really get far into it, but the writing itself is really good. I'm looking forward to getting to a point where I actually know who everyone is. Even though I hope I do finish it soon since I had to block GOT related things from my tumblr dash after getting spoiled for one death I hadn't known from Wikipedia. I'll put it back on when I'm done though. Also I'm still not getting a lot of stuff re tumblr, but then again as long as I can save pretty pictures I'm good.

7) Uhm, I think it's all for now. And this post is already too long. Right, I'll see if I can write that exchange fic, hoping I'm not brain dead from cramming.

Supernatural, Dean/Castiel

a) The Shape of Flight by [livejournal.com profile] destina;
Maybe there's something better down this road than all the roads before it. ; Dean/Castiel, Sam. PG, 2,142 words, no warnings, set post 6x22

There's a lot I loved about this. It tells a complete story with a relatively short length, it's written in second person POV and it's done extremely well (and I love myself some second person POV), it provides a great take on the 6x22 aftermath and the writing itself is just gorgeous, with everyone being perfectly IC.

b) Two colors by [livejournal.com profile] fossarian;

Or, I changed my layout for the first time in like six months (or changed it so that it isn't a variation on the same theme) and I wanted to post something, and there are memes around so why the heck not.

Icon meme! From [livejournal.com profile] crickets and a couple others.

* I'd just like to state that the favorite shippy icon is both Dean/Cas and Roland/Eddie, so it's worth for two ships. ;)

How many icons do you have total? 155

How many can you have? 165

If you could buy space for more, would you? ... I already have enough, don't tempt me. XD

Do your icons make a statement about you? ... yes. Especially that I like pink and Springsteen and Boone and Misha and Dean/Castiel.

What fandom do you have the most icons out of? either Lost or SPN, I didn't stop to count.

The second most? Whichever wasn't the one I have the most icons of. If you want a third, probably the vampire porn, but in comparison to the other two it's tiny.

What ship do you have the most icons out of? hahaha Dean/Castiel. Jack/Boone follows closely.

Break down your icons for us. mostly fandom, some movies, enough text, a lot of pink, too many Springsteen quotes.

How do you categorize your icons? fandom --> character/ship, when I have more than one icon for said fandom. If not I'll just put a name. Same for people, even though the Springsteen lyrics are under bruce springsteen.

Are your icons mostly made by other users? half by me and half by other people I think.

Animated icons are... I like them but I don't use many.

Aaaand then, book meme from [livejournal.com profile] pnr: In this blog post, Ebert links to a cloud of book titles first assembled in an article in The Guardian that shows the most-mentioned titles culled from a variety of book polls and reading lists. A sort of "consensus" reading list, if you will.

Bolding the ones I've read
Italicizing the ones I've started but not finished.

list! )

Also uhm maybe last day's entry ended up half-lost also because it was like Sunday, but just in case: whoever was that had volunteered to beta that Jimmy Novak apocalyptic fic like ages ago and whose name I forgot (sorry! I can't remember half of what happened just before I graduated) would be up for doing it now? Or anyone else really? Because I still haven't sent it over as my artist and I agreed on having it betaed before but I'm getting dangerously close to two weeks before the deadline. :( I can't even make you cookies because I suck, but if you need details check the post before this one. :) Thanks in advance?

Also next round I'll have the pictures from that meme as well. Now I'll see to accomplish something other than memes, hopefully.

Or, hi world. I've been a totally awful commenter lately and I haven't said anything that wasn't memes or random fic in ages but I've had a moment of 'I read everything and I procrastinate on commenting' and then didn't comment at all. Ugh. I just hope it's over. If you get a backslash of comments on old entries from me, don't mind me.

But, heck, at least I have news! Sorta.

1. First thing: happy late birthday [livejournal.com profile] lenina20 ! Sorry for the lateness but I hope you had the amazing day you deserve and that next year is nothing short of awesome for you. Possibly free of most university crap. ♥ ♥ ♥

2. Theen, I sadly go back to school next week. The break was good while it lasted. It'd help if my study plan wasn't made of exactly the same things I had to do in the bachelor's degree with the only exception that it's less exams and that I don't even get to choose with whom I can do stuff. *sigh* I want to be enthusiastic but I'm not exactly there. Then again it'll do way good to me to get back to actually doing stuff, so.

3. But, I'm sooo excited because [livejournal.com profile] wandersfound is visiting next week! :DDDDD it'll be glorious. I know it will. ♥ I can't wait. :D

4. Other reason why I'm not posting lately: every time I opened the page I tried to do a politics related post and then it became a rant that was going to be understandable just to Italian people, and then I quit it and I never posted. But since I'm aware that shit my PM has said lately has been reported everywhere, let me just state that whatever he says, especially about Lybia, causes indecent amounts of secondhand embarrassment here. Please don't think that everyone agrees with him, even if apparently half of this country still does. Ugh. I won't get started on the fact that he's under trial for underage prostitution related matters and he's still there. When do I go voting, again? *sigh*

5. German class is going decently. Yoga classes are as well. And damn but I'm happy I took it up again.

6. I need to stop starting books without finishing them. I realized I have currently like six novels that I started reading. One is almost finished but the rest are all at various points and ugh I really should read one book at a time. Anyway maybe in a short while I'll have a book recs post because some of that stuff I started is lovely indeed. also I generally need to stop procrastinating, but procrastination gets worse the more free time I have. Wanna bet that as soon as I'm back to school I'll be finishing novels and all the fic I'm not finishing?

7. On that, next month my target is finishing everything I have left undone that I think I can have half a chance to finish. Let's see if I manage it, uh? Especially because I realized I have an indecent number of unedited/not posted fic and I'm just procrastinating on posting it. Sloth is seriously my favorite deadly sin.. anyway let's see how good it goes and if I manage to stick to it.

8. Uhm, I have no more exciting news except that I finally got a new camera which was pretty much the only thing I wanted for a graduation present and it's the prettiest thing ever and it's half-professional and I can't possibly learn to use it in a short while. But if I manage to get the basic I'll so take the prettiest con pictures ever. And since long entry is long I'll probably stop here and see if I can go get some of that reading done. *waves*

9. No, wait, I was forgetting. I haven't managed to write anything for this because I spent the last two days in a mad cleaning frenzy in order to make my room presentable (and it really did take me two days -- lately everything is all over the place and I definitely need new bookshelves), but this is awesome and I have some prompts eyed and [livejournal.com profile] ozmissage is awesome for hosting it. And since there's way too little Boone someone go prompt some Boone for me so I can write something tomorrow, y/y? Go!
