janie_tangerine: (HELLOOO)
... wow? Uhm. Haha. I don't think I've ever left lj so long without updating? /o\ ugh I'm so behindddd I can't even. Thing is that rl decided to happen worse than usual (ie worse than the first two months of this year) and I pretty much fell behind on everything go me? Okay uhm so, I'm just going to give a bullet points thing of what has gone down?

a) I finished the master's degree exams - which was actually the #1 reason why I ended up falling behind - you'd think I'd have thought of putting an official hiatus on... anyway, I have just the thesis left and then I'm done? Which - seriously, I can't wait. The last finals were the feast of Ican'tgiveashitaboutanyofthis, ew.

b) So as it is I'm working on the thesis, which at least is one thing I actually give a damn about. I'm also done reading Wild Cards and re-evaluating e-readers, if only to read stuff that you should read on the computer as an only alternative.

c) I also figured I'd give an update because from tomorrow I'll have crappy internet access for the entire month and the idea of leaving the journal deserted until September was totally depressing, but anyway - if anyone who's still around wants postcards from either Vienna or Paris or both tell me and if I have your address is good, if I don't then PM me and I'll be more than glad to provide. :)

d) For the first time in years FINALLY they managed to arrive at the last trial degree to condemn Berlusconi, which totally doesn't mean that he's out of the picture knowing the guy, but it's farther than any other trial managed to get, so yay for that?

e) Comprehensive point for fandom - discussion is welcome but as it is I can't possibly catch up with everything I missed so feel free to go at me with months of lateness ;)

1) SPN: I loved everything about the ending of the season. I'm also ridiculously optimistic about it. I'm thrilled that no one important is dead and that Cas is human for good because omg such good possibilities <33333, and I pretty much was 100% behind the plot in the last three/four episodes or so. I'm currently not too much into the fandom killing itself over possible female interests that are stated to be not permanent but that's not related to the show - I'm ridic excited for S9!

2) Vampire Porn: this season was totally meh but picket itself back up in the last two episodes. Also, please keep Alaric ghosting around because he and Damon are still the best thing about this entire show.

3) GOT: the RW legit put me moping for two weeks. Ops. No, seriously, I spent two weeks going around the house on the point of weeping at every stupid thing. Other than that: better than S2 overall, I was WTF about 90% of Stannis's stuff this season, I'm plenty glad they reunited Jon and Sam, Jaime and Brienne were flawless, the Theon stuff killed me ten times overall and I hate HBO for *that* certain change about which part gets sent to his dad and Asha was better in the two scenes she had than a bunch of other people who had a lot more screentime to themselves. Anyway, as a general adaptation it was tons better than S2, even if Cat not getting screentime in favor of shewhoshallnotbenamed was horrible and.. well, the Robb storyline could have been awesome and it wasn't, but eeeeeh.

4) I've actually watched and caught up with the entirety of Breaking Bad in the last three weeks, which is also the reason why I didn't update here before - TOO BUSY CATCHING UP. Anyway, I'm gonna copy my opinion from the post I wrote [livejournal.com profile] falafel_musings on tumblr the other day because it pretty much sums it up and I can't be bothered to rephrase it XD

spoilers )

Hopefully when I'm back from the various places I'm going to this summer I can post about the last season along with everyone else. I'm so excited for it omg.

5) Pacific Rim was awesomecakes. I'm totally stalking fic for it on ao3 though I'm not planning on writing it anytime soon since I already am behind on fic I should finish and I'll be for years at the rate I'm going /o\, but anyway it was pretty much the only monsters vs humans action movie shot after the fifties that I've seen and actually really fucking liked - not to mention that it was a hell of a lot smarter than 99% of movies in that genre.

6) I have no clue of how I'm doing Gishwhes this year since I'm in Paris for a fifth of that week, but I'll manage to come up with something in that timeframe... (anyway, Misha = ♥ I CAN'T WITH HIM LATELY)

7) Oh, Under the Dome is also pretty cool, but if you read the book imo you can't enjoy it fully since they made two huge changes I'm not exactly down with. (Aka: my favorite character changed job and is stuck outside the dome so he has no role and Julia is too young for that part. I liked that she was older than the usual leading lady, damn it.)

d) Concerts-I've-seen-this-summer speaking: Bruce Springsteen was outofthisworldfuckingawesome as usual, Bon Jovi round two ended up in Dry County + These Days AGAIN which would have been enough but seriously asdfghjkl they were awesomecakessssss, the National were WOW (though seeing them the day after BJ after a three hour train ride put a hamper on my ability to stand up XD), the Patti Smith one I caught in April was outofthisworldexcellent but then again I think I've seen her more times than anyone else I've seen (except Bruce maybe) and I wasn't exactly surprised on that side. Also I ended up going with my parents to an Inti Illimani concerts that was for almost free in a park and while they definitely were more schooled on the songs than I was it was pretty damn good too.

e) Books I've read: Wild Cards as a whole is great but I'm not gonna go do a twenty one books series review in detail in a post that is already ridic crowded - suffices that I loved it. xD Considering that reading twenty books in a row took me five months and that I was doing the last finals I haven't read much other than that and my school books, but for something different: the last King (Joyland) is also pretty great and DOESN'T have a fucked up ending (!!!), though the last twenty pages made me scream in rage for different reasons - and I kind of cried at the end even if it was a book about killings in an amusement park. I'm completely beyond any kind of dignity. Saramago's Blindness (which I should have read years ago, in my plans..) is a total masterpiece as far as I'm concerned - probably I won't read a better one this year but then again we're talking about stuff that is waaaaay above average level. Coming down to less exquisitely literary deals, Fifty Shames of Earl Gray is hilarious. And you don't even need to read the original to have a crack, as long as you know the general plot and the basic character traits you're good. Honest, I spent a train ride trying not to read hysterically out loud.

f) On to the rest: WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU FLIST? ;_; I can't possibly catch up to... five months of missed entries especially when I'm leaving again tomorrow and I still have to finish packing so catch me up with what's been going on with you? At least when I'm back I won't be TOO MUCH out of the loop. <3

Aaaand okay I'm going to finish packing - I'll answer eventual comments in the evening :) (if I don't, I will at some point next week when I actually have time to do it from my outdated phone, ops.) ♥

[service communication: if I'm not around here, I'm definitely around on twitter - handle is always janiedean]
janie_tangerine: (going down with my ship)
1 . Happy Easter everyone! :D I hope you’re all hoarding the chocolate I’m not ;) aaand happy GOT day to everyone who actually watches it today – may you all survive it.

2. So, since (as usual) I haven’t updated as much as I thought I would, run-down of what’s been happening here: I solved one problem I was having for the last final I was supposed to have, so it’s three left now and then it’s just the thesis (which hopefully will make me enthusiastic again about this whole school deal because right now I’m just burned out) \o/ also, I thought the elections mess couldn’t get any worse, but apparently it is! And we might vote again this year! And I can bet you money I won’t like the result, since my last illusions that people vote with their heads in this country has been totally shattered. Anyway, welcome to the only country in the world where you stay in charge even if you lose the elections and when I can’t even be pissed about it because the alternatives are all worse. Oh, and B. wants to be President of the Republic. If you’re laughing at that, it’s exactly what you should do.

Also, Mumford and Sons were glorious :DDD which is pretty much the best thing that happened in the last month.

Meanwhile, I’m currently at my grandparents’ for the holidays, using the internet stealthily and wondering if my grandmother will ever understand that no one ever said that it’s your duty to make your own life miserable.

3. Also, since I’m set on getting back on track and starting doing episode reviews again from next week (at least for GOT and SPN, since I’m not sure I have enough shit to say about the vampire porn to do an entire post each episode) I’m catching up with some quick reactions to the last stuff here, so next week I can start anew. ;)

So, vampire porn: spoilers )

SPN: spoilers )

4. Since we were discussing tv: I’m going to (try to) do GOT recap posts this year DECENTLY, also because I promised [livejournal.com profile] lenina20 that I would warn her beforehand (<3). I’m not sure of when I’ll manage to watch the premiere because here the internet is random and I can’t be on it if anyone calls on the phone, which means that it’s gonna take me ages to download it, but at worst it should be tomorrow evening, so the review will happen either late tomorrow or early on the 2nd, unless I manage to watch it in the morning for some kind of miracle. That said: I’m pretty sure that everyone around here knows the deal, but since I spent the last month blocking idiots on tumblr arguing that Theon deserves horrible things, I’ll just state again that Theon bashing is nowhere near okay around these parts. Also, I’ll probably endlessly complain about Robb’s storyline this year because the few things I know aren’t making me happy, so uhm, just thread carefully because I’ll probably go heavy on that. xD

5. Also: anyone has switched to the new friends page? Is it as horrible as it seems from the description? Because I already miss the old update page, and since it hasn’t forces me to switch to the new friends page yet I’m delaying, but I’d like to hear some opinions before considering it. Not sure I’ll do it until they force me though.

6. And after this Easter novel, I should probably go get ready for lunch (and after that hopefully I’ll finish an 8x17 coda which has been nagging at me since I watched the damn thing but that I couldn’t start until yesterday…) Again, I hope you’re all drowning in chocolate :D (and expect some late comments because as stated since anytime someone calls on the landline I have to disconnect the internet I gave up on checking the friends page, but tomorrow I shall catch up. :D)
janie_tangerine: (asoiaf >> SWORD IN THE DARKNESSS)
1. ... Er, hello world! I suppose everyone has given me up for MIA, right? /o\ damn, I don't think I've ever spent this long without updating. Or checking the FL, ugh. I swear I'll be up to date asap. Anyway, since I disappeared for two months, have a run-through of what's been going on here.

2. So, point is: I ended up swamped in finals-related cramming which went good for half and bad for the other half (because two were passed the way I wanted, the other two... one I had to skip because I caught some bothersome form of influenza and the other because even with the cramming I wasn't nowhere near ready for it), so now I have three left. Then it happened that apparently the one class I have to attend this semester is canceled and I won't know what to do about it until tomorrow, but my former supervisor for the bachelor's degree is making me do the master's thesis with her so at least there's something. And this entire deal pretty much ate up more of my free time than I'd have liked, so I ended up having to drop any social network where it doesn't take you more than five seconds to post. /o\

3. Also: if anyone has read about election results, B. came in *second*, the third biggest party's target seems to be 'let's make everyone look horrible by not agreeing with a government with the first so next elections we win!', and obviously the lovely people at the left party managed to get first but without enough votes to actually rule, so in the end I'm pretty sure they'll elect the new Pope before we have a government. Yay. If anyone around can guess, I've been wanting to cry hysterically about it since it happened. (I'm also seriously thinking about going out of the country as soon as I have the degree and I find any kind of job somewhere else, but that's not happening until graduation which isn't happening until October at best, so.) Also, two of B.'s trials are ending soon and he organizes a march against the magistrature - I'm not even sure I can stand another six months of him being relevant.

4. ... damn the new LJ update page is as horrible as I remember it, but you can't switch anymore, right? Damn. Okay, back on track.

5. I'm actually caught up with tv shows (okay, nope, I'm caught with SPN and the vampire porn, I had to drop the rest for the moment) but I haven't had time for any reaction post whatsoever so I'll see if after I'm as caught up with the f-list as I'm going to be I'll manage to do some huge meta post for everything I haven't reacted about. For now, in short: I'm not exactly getting what the vampire porn is trying to accomplish but Damon looks prettier than usual so whatever and SPN hasn't been this good in ages as far as I'm concerned, so nothing to complain on that side.

6. Oh, right, I'm also feeling totally conflicted about GOT. In the sense, I want to watch it for some things, but knowing what awaits me at the end makes me wish it aired next year. Or ten years from now. Anyone who read the books knows the deal. One thing that was very much true, though, is that if the posters are the best HBO can do then they'd be better off if they hired me. Or any person around here who can use photoshop, because my first reaction was 'damn give me the selective coloring tool and make me get rid of the blue'.

7. Concerts speaking: I'm seeing Mumford & Sons in a week and The National are coming in June! (The day after I'm supposed to be in Milan for Bon Jovi, but I'll manage somehow.) Also there's Neil Young coming at the end of July, and while the venue sucks I'll probably go because who knows when it's going to happen again. And there's Bruce Springsteen in July too, so at least I'm doing good with going to concerts this year.

8. Also: I totally failed at Christmas cards even if I had half of them ready /o\ in the next days I'm going to send belated PMs because I didn't even manage to make a thank you post for the one I received and then I'm going to see what to do with it. If you receive random cards in the middle of April or May from me, it's me being extremely late.

9. GRRM speaking: I've also apparently and masochistically ended up getting crazy into Wild Cards, aka The Other Huge Project That GRRM Has Been Doing For Ages But I Didn't Know About It, which I probably should have avoided for my own mental sanity. But I'm apparently in 'DAMN IT I'M IN WESTEROS WITHDRAWAL' mode, and I saw the first book reprinted and I thought the plot was interesting. Clearly I got hooked, and then I promptly found out that on twenty-one books, five are in print and the rest is not. Good news is that I got a Kindle for Christmas and I found a torrent for the e-books, so I'm covered, but you don't want to know the pain that it's been finding ten on twenty-one. The problem is that the eleven I'm missing are priced too much for paperbacks that were out in the early nineties, but I'll probably buy them all. Very much eventually. Anyway, there's obviously no fandom whatsoever for it, so at least I'm saved from possible 'OMG SHINY NEW FANDOM' shenanigans, since I have no time for it. D:

10. Oh, and in the mess above described in the first point, it happened that a guy who could pass for Richard Madden's little brother except with brown hair/eyes exists and he SOMETIMES, and with that I mean 'two times each year', appears in my university. And I was sitting behind the guy during the only written final I had this round. I'm going to spare you the reactions to finding out the guy's existence - they were mostly the kind you overgrow after fourteen, but clearly the one time I run into a guy with whom I'd totally consider trying to flirt (and I'm a total fail at flirting and related) he shows up twice and then I don't see him around anymore. *facepalm* Help. Obviously not having crushed on people at fourteen is showing up now. Ah well.

11. Okay, that was what's going on with me. Soooo tell me what's up with you all? I haven't managed to check the FL also because at some point I fell behind with TV and I didn't want to risk spoilers, and I'm not sure that I'll see everything that I missed because LJ only lets me go back so much :/ I'll try to go check individual journals instead, but meanwhile if something happened with you tell me/link me? I missed LJ, I want to get back into the swing of things. <3
janie_tangerine: (girly icon is girly)
Extra that goes outside the list:

Congratulations, US. I'm not in the habit of blathering about politics that aren't my own but considering who was the alternative, congratulations. Also, just one thing even if it's late and probably not relevant anymore: dear Mitt Romney, Italy's economy is fucked because all the policies adopted here have *not* been the same as Obama's in the US. Check your facts.

That stated, on to less worldwide things.

1. First thing goes first: GASLIGHT ANTHEM ARE IMMENSE. Seriously I so don't regret the Milan trip - it was *amazing* and I got first row and they're as awesome as I thought they'd be AND THEY PLAYED FILM NOIR DSFKDSHFKSH I CAN'T COMPREHEND HOW AWESOME THAT CONCERT WAS. Not to mention the Wolverine action figures on the speakers - nerds, NERDS! - and the incense going on so that it'd cover the fake-smoke-they-always-use-in-concert smell. NO SERIOUSLY. ALSO BRIAN FALLON YOU'RE SO CUTE IN PERSON I DIED. HE SMILES ALL THE TIME I CAN'T.

LOOK AT HOW LOVELY HE IS.

sjafhkdsfgdkshfg. [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders you're in for a treat when you go see them. ;) Aaand I don't have time for full reviews but there might be one later. That said: I LOVE THESE PEOPLE OKAY.

2. So I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] mini_wrimo again. Hopefully I'll use it to finish stuff I have to finish rather than starting stuff at random that is never going to see the light of day.

3. GISHWHES killed my soul, but it was awesomecakes. Except, do never, ever do something stupid like reading The Raven to a crow. Or read anything to a crow. Stupid birds. I might post some of the pictures at some point, but ugh seriously it was a lot crazier than last year. I don't dare imagine what Misha is going to cook up next time...

4. Since we're talking Misha: random-ass-sort-of-late-but-not-for-the-last-episode reviews of SPN 8x05 and 8x06.

spoilersspoilersspoilers )

5. Non TV related and concerts related: Mumford and Sons are coming to Rome in March (SCORE FOR ME - TOTALLY GOING) and Bon Jovi after finally learning that Italy is Not A Place To Be Feared are coming to Milan in June! MORE CONCERTS FOR ME! And less money for me I fear, but you only live once I suppose.

6. I finally settled things re my study plan. Which means I can do my Masters thesis with the professor I want. And I didn't even have to argue with the office (too much). I think the Apocalypse *is* coming after all.

7. The indecent number of spam comments LJ left me this week is mind-boggling. I haven't had that many in ages. :/

8. Aaand that's all there is for the moment. Hopefully I'll have some half-decent concert review up at some point soon, along with other stuff. And I'll manage to update properly.
janie_tangerine: (the vampire porn damon/alaric phone)
1. HI WORLD. Ugh, I'm totally sucking at updating lately but now that I've settled a couple of things I should be around more. Hopefully.

2. So, RL stuff, with updates on How Public University Works In This Country for anyone who's been hearing me bitching about it for the last six years - at least it's partially good news. here! )

3. Yesterday I went to a graduation party that was also held in a disco. I kind of ended up running after two hours even if I'm pretty sure everyone else stayed until five AM, but apparently disco music, more than five hundred people in the same space, inability to dance and inability to do conversation are too much. /o\ Meh. I'm not sure I'll ever get the appeal.

4. Our usual relatively spoiler-less TV roundup - one day I'll go back to full reviews posts...

a) H50: still not back at S1 glory, not as bad as it can get. And now also accepting former SPN and vampire porn people! Even if imo Julie McNiven was absolutely wasted in that episode she was in.

b) Boardwalk Empire: too little Chalky and not enough Richard for my tastes, but I liked the developments with Richard in the last episode aired. If the veteran's daughter is his supposed love interest this season I'll be totally fine with it - she looks cool. For some reason, Van Alden is apparently my third-favorite character now - what the hell, right? Also someone please tell me that what happened in the last episode I've seen him fucks him over because I just want him and Swedish Babysitter Now Turned Wife to be happy, k? Margaret is better than last season. Nucky needs to wake up and be more interesting again. Owen keeps on saying absolutely nothing to me. Gillian needs to go away. Okay, I suppose it's all.

c) Vampire porn, which I realize I haven't posted about in ages: it's back! YES! AND I LOVE IT! I love everything. I love how they're dealing with vampire!Elena, for some reason I apparently like Klaus a lot more this season - wtf. I'm extremely glad that Tyler didn't in fact die. Bonnie needs more appreciation. Not sure about the new people but I don't dislike them. Also the hunter makes this-season-Winchesters seem like humanitarians. Damon is *glorious* this season, period. I <3 Damon okay. Also as everyone imagined that scene with Damon on Ric's grave and ALARIC BEING THERE AND BEING LIKE 'I MISS YOU TOO' = I DIED. DIED. THE WHOLE THING WITH DAMON KEEPING RIC'S SEAT EMPTY WASN'T ENOUGH - THEY HAD TO DO THAT I CANNOT SJDHSAJDJH MY POOR SHIP. Just - ugh. It makes me cry in every possible way. THOSE TWO, WHY DID THEY NEED TO TAKE RIC FROM DAMON DAMMIT DDDDDD: *weepfest* anyway nothing is going to beat that scene this season for a long time I foresee. Also is it normal that I want Damon and Meredith to have 'I miss Alaric so much' sex? Yes? No? I give up. Also Caroline is still the best and seriously, this stupid vampire show is still the thing I enjoy most without reserve. Whatever. Go them. Oh, also, finally Matt has a storyline. More or less. We all appreciate.

d) SPN: 8x03 was mostly good, nothing to say about it either way except that Sam's behavior seems kind of odd to me. Or at least written oddly - I mean, I can't believe no one ever bought him a birthday cake. Or that he'd talk about having a normal life as if he *never* did try it in the first place - idk, probably it was some writing issue and they went about it wrong but it left me very perplexed. 8x04 was imo very good - it took a bit to get into the style of it and tbh seriously, do people ever STUDY when they're at campuses in these shows, but I really really like the outsider perspective and that they decided to give the monster a chance at the end - considering that lately they're all gung-ho about killing hosts and whatever it was a nice change. And that said, seriously, Sam and Dean appeared for probably like five minutes in the entire thing but when at the end Dean had that dejected face while he asked 'do I really say awesome that much?' I think someone punched my heart or something. Just - HOW DO YOU DO IT WITH ONE LINE SERIOUSLY. Other than that: Sam's hair keeps on being a mystery - I'm pretty sure that it's possessed since it CHANGES FROM FRAME TO FRAME, IT CAN'T BE POSSIBLE - and the office romance line was kind of hilarious. Lol. Unknowing wincest shippers much? Anyway, neither episode was on par with the first two, but they weren't bad whatsoever.

e) Kings, which I finished sometime last week: I'd just like to state that whoever canceled this after one season was a criminal. CRIMINAL. YOU DON'T CANCEL THIS KIND OF BRILLIANCE. I loved everything about it. The whole biblical retelling was overall genius, the acting was out of this world (seriously IAN MCSHANE SERIOUSLY WHY CAN'T THEY EVER MAKE A SHOW WITH THE GUY THAT ACTUALLY FINISHES ITS RUN) and Jack was totally my favorite (... considering that he was pretty much the Theon of the situation except with some more PR skills and more luck in taking horrible decisions that's probably not a surprise - also I mean, Sebastian Stan *dies*) and everything was done so well and clearly THEY DIDN'T EVEN GET TO THE POINT WHERE DAVID BECOMES KING UGH seriously *why*. The fact that my Bible reading was recent probably is influencing my opinions but seriously everything about that show was made of win. Except that it isn't longer. DDDDDD: why do networks always cancel smart shows/stuff I like? Meh.

f) I started Treme. I'm nowhere near far enough in it to do serious reviews, but it's *awesome*. And I appreciate all the music I'm discovering thanks to it. Also all the people from The Wire in the cast are automatically a win. (And Kim Dickens! I missed her face!). I'll probably have more in-depth reactions when I finish S1.

5) Telegraph Avenue is gorgeous. Even if Chabon needs to stop torturing me with bittersweet endings okay, I cannot. Anyway, I'm not going into spoilers here - if I manage to do a goodreads review I'll do it there - but while it still wasn't quite as good as Kavalier & Clay it still was a darned gorgeous book. Also: dear Michael, on behalf of poor ESL people who tend to write in run-on sentences and do-not-get why the English language hates them so much, THANK YOU. Because a guy who manages to publish a book where there's a 12 pages long POV of a parrot which is.. well, twelve-pages of one run-on sentence that actually makes sense, has all my admiration. Seriously, I think that when I was done with that part I spent about five minutes with my eyes like this -> O______O. And now I'll have to wait another five years before he puts out another novel, knowing his timing - sigh. I just want to marry that man's sentences.

6) Aaand for a last thing, completely OT from that: this is the best Robb/Theon meta you'll ever read. Actually I'd say also the best meta on Robb *and* Theon singularly since it says stuff about the characters not necessarily taking the relationship into consideration all the time. Seriously, I think finding the link to this has given meaning to the fact that I actually use tumblr at all and I feel obliged to link it around. It's some flawless meta. Period. And with this I'll go doing productive stuff, sort of.
janie_tangerine: (supernatural dean/castiel)
1. ... hi again. *waves* wow, this month I've been the worst at updating. *sigh* well, I'm giving you bullet points.

a) University has started again. I have sort-of-decent-classes, except for the ones that I have to study for without attending. Also I should manage to do my masters thesis with the person I want, but there's some bureaucracy drama going on over there and seriously, it's been five and a half years and I'm *still* headdesking over bureaucracy.

b) Random advice from yours truly: never put iodine tincture on you if you can help it. Long story short, I put some on my shoulder to relieve myself from mosquito-related swelling and I practically burned a hole into my skin. That happened two weeks ago. I still can't go out without gauze over it. /o\ seriously, don't ever do it.

c) I have tickets to see Gaslight Anthem in Milan! \o/ I'm so excited about it, you don't even know. \o/

d) My granddad is doing decently, or at least more decently than I thought, so at least there's that. *crosses fingers*

e) I have the new Chabon book. I'm not much far into it yet, but it's about two guys working in A USED RECORD SHOP. Needless to say that the moment I read the synopsis I was very much pleased.

2) So, TV that isn't SPN. Have all bullet points - nothing will be spoilers.

Boardwalk Empire: Richard and Van Alden are (the last one surprisingly) the best thing about this season yet. Nucky is seriously starting to scare me. Margaret has gotten slightly better since last season's fail. I appreciate that the Italian people actually sound Italian. Needs more Chalky overall. Gillian keeps on majorly creeping me out and Richard is still the best person in that bunch.

H50: the premiere was meh, also because they were seriously pushing the 'let's write shit that couldn't possibly happen according to the laws of physics' - also people need to stop dump all the angst on Chin. The second episode - I watched it the evening when I finished The Wire. Suffices to say that I totally don't remember what happened. The last one was actually delightful, also because finally they went back to the S1 formula. Can it be like that always? Thanks. Anyway, as things are whenever Danny or Chin aren't on screen I tend to tune out. :/

And a shout out to the vampire porn, which is back today and which will undoubtedly make my Friday a lot better than it is right now.

Anyway, the sad thing is that (with SPN's exception, but more on that in the next point) everything I'm watching lately seems either sub-par or just *not good enough* because I keep comparing it with The Wire, which is obviously not very smart of me since a few things can compare to it in the first place.

3. Okay, let's talk about SPN. I wanted to make a post about the premiere but I obviously didn't because a) I was too lazy, b) last week this time I was too busy trying to figure out what to do about the iodine-induced burn on my shoulder (with pitiful results) and in the end I didn't manage. So, under there there's rambling about both the premiere and the second episode.

spoilersssssss )

4. In other news, the new LJ posting interface (the one in beta) is fugly. Can I hope it can be opted out from, when it's time? Because I don't want buttons to help me with my html. :/

5. And with that I'll probably go have another emotional breakdown while I rewatch that certain part of the latest SPN ep discussed above. I still can't believe that happened.
janie_tangerine: (asoiaf >> my perfect doomed ship)
1) ... hi, it's been a long time. In my defense, I spent pretty much the entire last month studying for the most useless final that I ever had to take and I've been done with the entire session last Monday. Buut in good news the broken computer was replaced, so hopefully I'll manage to catch up with everything I missed when it was down and while I was breaking my head over stuff I didn't care about. And possibly catch up with fic writing.

2) Also, since for the last five days I've been pretty much sleeping my time off and because before the final I was drowning in notes: happy extremely late birthday to [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders and [livejournal.com profile] toestastegood! <3333 I hope the two of you had amazing days and that you got accordingly spoiled. ;) and since I don't know if on Monday I'll be able to post (see point 3) happy early birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ozmissage! ♥ I hope you get the best of days and that some Mark Ruffalo clone drops from the sky in front of your door, but in case that one doesn't happen, still best wishes for the best possible time. ;)

3) Point the third: tomorrow I'm going on (real) vacation and I'll be going to Sweden and hanging out at [livejournal.com profile] pnr's, and it'll include visiting Copenhagen, other lovely places in the south of Sweden and seeing Bruce Springsteen again (<3). I should still be more or less around in some capacity (at least on Twitter), but that said, if anyone wants a postcard I'd be more than happy to provide. ;) If I already have your address from somewhere else just say that you want one, otherwise send me a PM with it.

4) Back when I wasn't having computer issues I was thinking of doing some tv reaction post catching up for the finales I missed, but obviously I got swamped in finals and then I didn't have the computer and then I never did, so while I'm going to post some lengthy reviews of Carnivàle, Kings and the last three Sopranos season when I'm back, just a couple thoughts over the last two GOT eps which I totally missed talking about last time. this is all very short and without much dwelling, but everyone said it already, so. )

5) For something completely different: I was linked this a while ago and it's too priceless not to share with the world.

It caused me at least a good ten minutes of cracking up.

6) Aaand now I should really be packing so I'll go do it and hii again! Hopefully I won't disappear for the entire next month...
janie_tangerine: (carnivàle)
1) I'm still desktop-less and most likely won't have a new one until Monday if I'm lucky or until the week after if I'm not, and I'm not managing to keep up to date much. I'll hopefully replace it on Monday and I'll catch up at some point. But as I really need to print stuff, it's starting to be bothersome. Also I realized that I had shit that I should have saved on the desktop, but since the problem is that the disk has fried and it won't load properly, I have no idea of how to save it. If I can. :/ Also the netbook has been frying because of the heat so I'm trying to use it just for basic stuff.

2) Two finals down, two to go, and the one I have on Monday is reminding me of all the reasons why I wrote a thesis on Kant and not Hegel. At least the first two went good. The second included a surreal exchange in which I totally recced Oryx and Crake to the English teacher who was supposed to evaluate my capacity to speak in English. Yeah, I don't even know.

3) The average temperature has been... around 35° degrees celsius, but I'm sure it reached 40 at some points in the last week. This weather isn't what you need when you're dealing with Hegel. I mean, it's still June. You don't get this kind of hot until mid-July, usually. Yeah, right.

4) In the midst of this, my parents are happily going to Spain next weekend, and I'll stay here and study for a theology exam I totally would have never signed for if I had any choice.

5) While on breaks from final the first and final the second, I watched Carnivàle. A more thorough review will happen when I have the new computer, but for now I'd just like to ask, who the fuck was the head of HBO between 2003 and 2005? Because seriously, the only shows they ever canceled leaving them with a crap ending were this one, Deadwood and Rome (which I never watched because the idea of Romans speaking in English amuses me greatly, but I'm told it was very good too), and my only comment when it was over was HOW DO YOU EVEN CANCEL SOMETHING THIS BRILLIANT? Seriously, it was all kinds of awesome weird and while my favorite HBO show is still Deadwood, I thought it was amazing. And right up my alley. Bleargh, just two seasons weren't enough.

And on the next final break I'm totes watching Kings, since I ended up reading the Bible because of said theology class and at least now I have the background knowledge.

6) And I shall now go trying to plan my dc_summerlovin fic for good so I can write it tomorrow while I'm on breaks from Hegel. I'll hopefully be more around soon, if the heat doesn't kill me first.

7) Oh, and wait, [livejournal.com profile] ozmissage wrote me THE BEST BRIENNE/JAIME FIC EVER for [livejournal.com profile] got_exchange and YOU SHOULD READ IT, YOU REALLY SHOULD. You have to join the comm, but it's so totally worth it. Seriously. You want to. And it's post ADWD so if you didn't read that ignore this, but if you did read it, YOU REALLY SHOULD.

8) Okay, I'm really done now.
janie_tangerine: (asoiaf >> theon 2.0)
1. So, I had actually watched that ep when it leaked, then I figured I'd wait for the actual airing moment to review it and then it was Easter and I didn't, but since I have ~feelings~ about it and tonight's episode will give me EVEN MORE (everyone who read the books and saw the preview knows why) I'll just go over the main things here.

the night lands )

2. Easter was absolutely non-eventful. I went to grandparents' and the only news is that apparently my now ten-year-old cousin (UGH, WHEN DID HE BECOME TEN? I FEEL SO OLD) decided that I'm cool enough to interact with. It only reinforces my belief that I can't interact with kids younger than ten, but from then onward it might be not entirely a disaster. The weather since then has been abysmal though. I was so ready for winter to be over.. obviously winter is coming instead

3. In university news, the class I'm attending where it's just me and the professor (seriously) is apparently moving to his office. And we're at the point where we swapped numbers because if he can't go it's ridiculous that I would, and viceversa. It's so awkward, I can't. For the rest, I have one class I moderately care for (but not much), one that is killing my soul and another which is made of professor trying to teach people to speak in English. And I totally don't need to actually attend but it's obligatory. For the last semester that I'll attend (though I'll probably end up taking a couple classes next fall, considering how things are...) it's been so lackluster, ew. Not being able to pick your subjects does a lot in making you wonder what you're even doing.

4. This entry is sadly lacking non-GOT related comments, so since there have been some new friendings lately and this meme looked lovely, I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] pann_cake:

abc meme )

5. Drive by link: there's a GOT kink meme going on here for anyone interested.

6. With that, I'll go answer comments and try to whip up some more five acts fills. One of these days I'll start writing unprompted fic again, but it's not today.

7. And last thing: my Guinness World Record certificate just arrived! :D I'm taking pictures as soon as it isn't bent anymore. (Because obviously what do Italian post workers do when there's a DO NOT BEND written all over the package? Obviously they bend it.)

8. Okay, I'm really done. Next post will probably have fic recs as I hoarded links for a while. Now I'll go do what I said in point six and see you all tomorrow with GOT gushing.
janie_tangerine: (sopranos)
1) *waves* hi world. Sorry for being scarce but if you look at my icon the reason will be clear. ;)

2) Anyway, classes have started again. Out of the two I went to out of four (the other two start this week) one is good and the other is a painful experience, mostly because I'm apparently the only one attending/giving that exam and if there's one thing I hate is attention focused completely on me in that kind of circumstance. And out of the two I have to do, one I totally don't give a damn about and the second is totally useless, but at least the only book in program for that one is by Margaret Atwood. If anything at least I'm not going to sleep through it, but I really, really don't like that out of three classes I'm taking I basically picked one and three were forced down my throat. /end rant

3) I should get a Guinness World Record certificate in the mail fairly soon. Misha Collins, if my cousins ever start thinking that I'm cool because I did your scavenger hunt, I'll owe you a drink.

4) Anyway, in the week between having my last exam and classes starting, I figured that it was time I took advantage of the shiny dvds for all the Sopranos season that I was given for Christmas and watched them. Right now I'm done with S1 and S2 and I'm spoiled just for how the finale ends (because I mean who doesn't know that by now) and for another huge thing, but I know nothing about all the rest so reaction to those ones will obviously only take those two seasons into account.

S1/S2 blathering under here )

5) Other than that I have stuff to catch up with and OMG GAME OF THRONES IS BACK IN LESS THAN A MONTH and about that, I'm not in the habit to post meta but there's stuff I've been brewing about a couple of certain issues so there might be some GOT related meta posted here at some point. Who am I kidding, Robb Stark related meta

6) Also, I'm trying to sort out all the comment fic/exchange fic I've never posted properly so if in the next week I end up spamming the world with round-up masterposts, sorry in advance.

7) Fic speaking (and last point): anyone who finished ADWD would be cool with betaing my fic for [livejournal.com profile] smallfandombang? It's, uuh, 18k of post-ADWD Jon/Sam, very much NC17. If you're interested I can give you details. Thanks in advance! ;)

Also: to the new people who friended me the last week, would you like for me to friend you back or anything? I don't do it automatically so it's just to know.
janie_tangerine: (you know nothing jon snow)
So.

This session, some exams got pushed back because they managed to do some mess that I don't want to know with the graduation dates. Among which, there was the one I was supposed to do next. It was supposed to be Jan. 31st. Then that date disappeared and it said that it was only on the 21st. Fine, okay.

Then today I go online to sign myself and I find out that: my exam was supposed to be on the 14th, the one for my class for whoever attended last year is on the 25th, and on the 21st there are the orals for the bachelor class. (I'm in the master's.) This has NOT been notified in any way.

cut to spare you the extra whining )

Okay, pity party is done. Will go back to try and phrase that mail as nicely as I can without making it sound pathetic. Depending on the answer, I might go spending twenty euros in the cupcake place in the next few days just to cheer myself up.
janie_tangerine: (philosophy)
1) Thanks so much to everyone who sent those pretty glass hearts ♥ my profile looks a lot prettier and my v-day sucked a lot less than it usually does. ;) Ilu all.

2) Dear world, I'm ready for this session to be over and for the weather to get better, because when you live in the only sort of civilized city where buses don't have wheels for snow in 75% of the cases and if it snows a bit 75% of the public transportation gets shut down and so you end up at home revising which is exactly what you did since vacations were over, you start to go stir-crazy. At least another two and then I can just go see five movies in a row. And the fact that a lovely coffee shop/bakery that sells glorious not-so-tiny cupcakes opened near home therefore making it the only reachable not-useless place around is threatening my levels of sugar, not that I regret cupcakes.

3) Okay, uh, you remember when I said that I couldn't be bothered with Ringer not being just plain stupid anymore but bordering on (imo) offensive? Yeah, I take it back because today's episode was just - I have no freaking words. Rant under the cut, feel free to ignore if you a) like that show, b) don't watch it (and it's good for you). Also: discussion about triggering material (non-consensual sex).

seriously? SERIOUSLY? )

4. And after that rant that was probably too long for that show, and to remind myself why I'm watching it next week after all, here, have some Misha being OMG ADORABLE NEXT TO THE GUINNESS WIN CERTIFICATE. I'd just like to state that having contributed to be in a Guinness primate feels pretty darn awesome. I have something to tell my nephews now. ;)

5. Also, the porn battle is sadly over. :( I managed six fills this round which was awesome. Posting will happen tomorrow or so. (And recs as well probably.)

6. Aaand it's almost 1 AM and I have fic to finish and stuff to study/revise tomorrow so I'll just thank everyone for the shiny sparking hearts and be off. Sigh. One of these days one of these entries will be full of exciting RL shenanigans, but this isn't it.
janie_tangerine: (psycho fanfic)
1. ... very late happy new year world! ♥ Okay, this is way late but between LJ not letting me comment, a final I had to cram for and fic deadlines I totally managed to procrastinate even on posting here. *facepalm*

2. So, out of the way: thanks for the Christmas cards! :D I totally failed to do it before also because most of them arrived in January or end of the December when I wasn't at home (Italian postal service, how so failing), so.. thanks for the cards to:

[livejournal.com profile] tellshannon815 (let's hope for more Ian indeed!), [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords, [livejournal.com profile] vella_amor_dm, [livejournal.com profile] itsjustc, [livejournal.com profile] gottalovev (omg that card is gorgeous! <3), [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7, [livejournal.com profile] hopelessfangirl, [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee, [livejournal.com profile] jaydblu and [livejournal.com profile] invisiblelove!

If you sent me one and I didn't mention you... eeeh, the postal service this year has been crappy on the receiving end so it'll probably get to me soon. Hopefully. I have sent one to everyone who asked, hopefully all of them got there fine but since I sent them from the only postal office in this country where they make you attach four stamps on your own and some weren't even adhesive I just hope that they -do- get wherever you are at some point. Thanks again everyone! ♥ ♥ ♥

3. RL-wise, I'm drowning in notes and I have four finals to go out of five. Good news is that the first went good, bad news is that it wasn't the worst one out of the way and that I'll have exactly one free day before the new term starts. Someone remind me why I always end up cramming everything at the last moment.

4. TV-wise, I'm behind with a couple of things but I managed to catch up with most things currently airing, so have some mixed general reactions.

spn 7x10 - 7x12 )

vampire porn 7x10 - 7x12 )

sherlock series two )

chuck - entire season up until the last episode )

boardwalk empire S2 - finale blathering as well )

5. Theeen, I need to rec fics that I got for Yuletide/exchanges AND another awesome one I read yesterday, so, have a small rec angle! (That said, NY's resolution: do the rec posts regularly. Let's try..)

First, I'm gonna put the bulk of it under a cut but since this one needs to be spread around, it's outside a cut so that the world can see it (or better: the Jon/Sam shippers on my FL can see it and go shower it with love and comments):

- Samwell Tarly’s Merciless Observations and their Ramifications, by [livejournal.com profile] restlesspuppy; Game of Thrones, Jon/Sam, NC17, no spoilers after the first season; Samwell Tarly is fascinated by Jon Snow. Samwell Tarly wants to know Jon Snow from the inside as well as the outside.

You know that I spend half of my time weeping because there's no Jon/Sam around this fandom? WELL. This fic has, not necessarily in this order: spot-on characterizations (seriously, her Sam voice is superb and Jon is totally perfect), lovely prose, scorching hot sex (which imo is made even better by who's topping), awesome execution altogether and it's just so good I could cry. Anyone around here who ships it, go and give it a try because it's awesomecakes and deserves hits.

Yuletide & Christmas exchanges + random lone fic; Dark Tower, ASOIAF, SPN and a crossover )

This is all for now - I still need to go through the Lost HoHoHo stuff, so there'll be recs from that too as soon as I'm done with a) finishing stuff I'm supposed to have finished in a week, b) re-posting everything I haven't re-posted because of school or laziness since... November or so.

6. Aaaand, to get back into the swing of things and end this extra-long thing, meme stolen from... everyone.

1. Hii. Entry that wasn't a show reaction, I missed you. Anyway, I've done that exam from hell that got postponed for about four times and I'm not cramming anymore, and I'm done wanting to strangle whoever is in charge of study plans at my university, so I should be fairly more around. Hopefully.

2. In good news: I'm going to Paris from december 3rd to december 7th. In slightly less good news I'm going alone because I couldn't find anyone to go with, but considering that this year I spent half of my not-so-long-stretch of vacation time with either chicken pox or dealing with rotting-tooth-related headaches I had a moment of 'damn I need a vacation before this year is over'. And at least I was early enough and the plane tickets were totally cheap. Now I just have to find myself a room and I'm set. I so can't wait to take that break really.

3. In other news: I finally managed to watch Game of Thrones! :D It only took me.... five months. To start, because then I finished it in four days, but still. I figured I should do it before classes end and I have the next exams batch. I'll try not to spoil for the books but in case it'll be marked.

entire series blathering under the cut - it's mostly squeeing )

4. Woah that was a novel. I'll try to keep the rest short. So, good/bad news: Misha Collins will be back on my tv (yay!) but it'll be on Ringer (which means I can't quit it as I was kind of thinking because seriously the more I watch that show the more I don't get if they're really assuming that anyone would buy what happens or if they're just trying to be a soap opera not airing daily). Ah well, if it means he's in a scene with Maybelline Craphole Island I'll weep in joy and start writing Richard/Cas fic. Or something.

5. I'm on a good trac with mini_nanowrimo, except that I'm not writing the things I should write. IE exchange fics. I also fear that 90% of what I'm using those 400 words each day with won't see the light of the day, but at least I'm writing daily. Which is good. I should do it also when it's not a challenge.

6. Aaand that was it about strictly updating. And since I need to get back in the swing of things, meme I've seen around. And I haven't done it in years, so.. why not. Here it goes.

Name a fandom I participate in/have participated in and I'll list my three most unpopular opinions about it.

7. And now I shall go do my mininano count before crashing. Good times. I need to stop this writing at two AM thing, my grammar isn't better off for it.

1. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] thespiansparkle and [livejournal.com profile] carmexgirl! :DDD i hope that you're both having awesome days and that the next year is nothing short of awesome. (And that possibly brings Misha Collins back on our screens, that damned new Dark Tower book and everything you shall wish for.) And if any of you has prompts I'll see what I can do. :)

2. Meeeh apart from episode reviews I haven't posted anything lately. Reason: I was supposed to have an exam on the 19th, then it was moved to the 24th, THEN it was moved to the 3rd (for me) and I've been angsting over it until now. And will angst over it until Thursday. Doesn't help that I don't care about any of it but hopefully the second time will go through...

3. Meanwhile I've been at least keeping up with shows.

Shortly: Ringer keeps on being ridiculous and at some point I'll just fast forward to the scenes with Nestor Carbonell and watch just him. Mostly because the characters seem to be in a race for who is the most dumb. like, just a couple of things ) H50 got better even if it's still not as shiny as last season and I still don't get if I want Lori gone or not. Then again just show me AOL without a shirt and we can talk. Sirens got canceled so there goes the only new show that I really liked this season. Meeeh.

3b. A couple longer things about Boardwalk Empire: mostly about 2x05 but also some 2x06 )

4. So, Misha Collins is apparently wanting to get into the world records guinness by making us go insane and opened a website for it. Out of all the things you were supposed to do until now I only managed to get someone to take a picture of yours truly while holding up a sign saying gishwishes takes Rome. You don't want to know how I explained the entire thing to the very nice woman taking the pic for me. If anyone has missed the collage on the site..

You can see yours truly's face for a split half of a second at 0.44. I'm the one with the trenchcoat in front of the Pantheon - you can't really read the sign but you COULD, if looked at the picture in the right size. XD

5. Throwing it here: anyone would be willing to beta for me 6000 words of Castiel & Amelia Novak fic for Novakfest? Posting starts on the 8th but I highly doubt I'll be posting early, so no hurries.

6. Aaand... happy Halloween to whoever seriously does it! Between it not being a huge thing here and the fact that I have to study physics stuff I absolutely don't give a damn about I'm doing.. absolutely anything, but here, have the Best Thing Ever For This Holiday that I know.

Don't tell me that it isn't awesome. ;)

7. And I think it shall be it for now. At some point I'll get back into the swing of things. Possibly after having passed this thing. The day I thought that the master's degree meant more laid back schedule I was so very wrong.

1. Happy late birthday to [livejournal.com profile] jaydblu! :D I hope you had an amazing day and that next year brings awesome/nice things all the way. ♥

2. So, classes have started which is why I've been scarce. Thankfully this round I actually give a shit about four classes on four rather than one on three, so maybe this semester won't be the complete drag that last semester was. Also none of my current teachers is an idiot, which is definitely a plus. Now I just need to get through a will-be-not-nice session at the university office if they have to bitch about what I need to put on my study plan. Hopefully I won't end up on the newspaper for strangling the employees. (Also, in my university the office supposed to deal with students is now open TWICE each week, three hours each, and none of these is in the afternoon. At times I think I should have done university abroad entirely.)

3. TV talking under the cut! Or well, what TV I've seen that isn't the vampire porn or SPN. Also: the bit about H50 isn't exactly flattering and there's talking of possibly triggering subjects.

4. Meanwhile, out of utter curiosity (and because it was short) I went and downloaded/watched New Amsterdam. What's sad: the eight episodes of that show are better than half of the new shows I checked out. *facepalm* It was lovely. And I obviously need to catch up with things either till airing or wrapped up, not things that were canceled without an ending ages ago.

5. I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo again, in hopes that during November I manage to finish stuff. Last year it was awesome and being forced to write daily is a good thing, so I'll give it another go. One of these years I'll do the regular Nanowrimo again but it'll be when I'm done with classes forever.

6. Sadly, the exciting news are done for now. But hey, why not a meme? Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] elliotsmelliot and [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders: give me a book/show/movie and I'll answer with:

+ Favorite episode(s)
+ Favourite character(s)
+ Favorite villain(s)
+ Favorite Ship(s)
+ Favorite growth arcs
+ Best portrayal overall
+ Favorite quote

1. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] valhalla37! I hope you're having a smashing time and that your next year is full of awesome things, job-wise and everything else-wise, and may it also be filled with Jeremy Davies getting a lead on a good show or appearing in as many places as possible. ♥ and if you have prompts or anything I'll see what I can do. :)

1b. Incidentally, also happy birthday to Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles and John Coltrane. Why wasn't -I- born on Sept. 23rd?

1c. Oh, and double incidentally, I hope Misha is having the time of his life at his kid's birthday party. Another one who picked a good day to be born, unlike myself.

2. In RL news: university is currently making me want to commit harakiri in ten different ways. (And I ended up refusing my grade at that stupid exam and ended this close to arguing with my professor but whaaatever. Next time.) In better news, my tooth is apparently fixed and also not sensitive anymore, and it's good that it's done with. In I-don't-even-know news, after the high school reunion I'm apparently facing a junior high reunion. I'm totally not convinced that it's a good idea, since it's the kind of thing where you should bring popcorn and munch while people strangle each other virtually, but we shall see. And yoga started again, and it's been glorious. At least that.

3. Also, I've seen a lot of TV in the last two days.

Also: BOARDWALK EMPIRE IS BACK THIS WEEK! :DDDDDDDDD aaand SPN is back today! Tomorrow for me! I'm feeling ridiculously giddy and happy and flailing about the first and... re the second, I'm totally unspoiled and just wanting to see what happens, and I'm glad that it's back altogether because by now I've been wrecking myself after it for five years, it'd feel wrong not angsting about it anymore. Tho please FSM let Castiel have a good story, thanks.

4. Also, I might not be the greatest Foo Fighters geek on this planet but when I see this kind of stuff I'm glad that they exist.

The best thing is that out of the Westboro people just one understood they were being made fun of by the people they were picketing.

5. PM is being disgusting beyond any limit. Germans on my FL: sorry regarding his comments re your PM, who's surely a lot more competent than him. (And way more attractive, all things considered.) basically: guy said in a wiretapping stuff that would make me say 'well let them be bankrupt' if I were her. thankfully for everyone I'm not. Also, my favorite Italian program got axed because he didn't appreciate that they did satire about him/invited people he didn't like. The second I know when we vote, since they're not lasting until the term is done, I'll mark days on a calendar.

6. Next post should have a bunch of recs. Which I didn't do this summer but I want to see if I can pick up the habit. Hopefully...

7. Aaand that's it for now. I'll go to bed crossing my fingers for good things to happen on SPN. Or better, to Castiel, who am I fooling..
