Bollocks, Clint Eastwood didn't win at Cannes. Well, not that I was expecting it, but it'd have been cool if he did. And by the way, when is it out? I need my Eastwood movie of the year. Cannes speaking, I've watched two movies this weekend, one which everyone has seen/is going to see sooner or later and one which I guess won't go much farther than Italy but hey, it won the jury's prize.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: well, I really really enjoyed this one!

Just two weak points: 1, it's not Raiders of the Lost Ark (but this goes also for the other two..); 2, Spielberg should really understand that aliens are not his thing anymore. I think that the aliens stuff was the weakest part of the plot (even if I buy it, I mean, with Indy you buy everything) and that all the latest sci-fi movies that Spielberg did IMHO were terrible. And this was going absolutely awesome until the aliens and was back on that after them, so I'll reiterate, please, stop here with UFOs. Thanks.

The rest? Pure love. I had fun like I rarely had lately at some movie, I was completely cracking up all the way (the snake scene was pure gold), Harrison Ford is still pure sex (the hat! The whip! *sighs*), Shia LaBeuf (is that written like that?) is nowhere near Brando but was extremely cool, having Marion Ravenwood back was completely awesome and guh, I loved it. Cate Blanchett also was very good and I also saw it in original language so even cooler. Loved it.

Gomorra: well, this one won the prize jury at Cannes so I guess it's going to get some outside recognition. I didn't read the book (though maybe I will) and it isn't nothing anyone living here in Italy who reads a newspaper regularly can't imagine, but I guess it hit the target. I mean, it was obviously meant to be a heavy movie, without characters you could identify with, not agreeable with in the least and wanting to be realist. It was all of that and I guess that it's good for its target. I personally wanted to throw up in some parts and it had its flaws (the pace is quite slow and it kind of lacks a solid plot). I don't think it was eligible for the first prize there because it wasn't at that level but still, it makes you think. And throw up. And in my case kind of desperate because Naples it's a three hour drive from here.

Uhm, anyway, I'll reiterate. When is The Exchange out? I need my Eastwood movie.

In other news, yesterday night the local soccer team won the national cup and it wasn't possible to sleep until one AM (argh), while today I managed to finish the draft for that godforsaken paper and to write 4000 words of Desmond and Boone down in the hatch. And I'm about at half. It's clearly the most insane plot bunny I ever had. *nods* Well, tomorrow I'm so finishing that paper, or at least getting it into some legible form.

Indy is just so great! LOL at that scene the whole theater was cracking up. We were so expecting the snake sooner or later but not like that ;)

No, it wasn't Raiders, but it would be hard to top that. It was a lot of fun and you're right, that is rare these days, at least with my choices. Having Marion back was a great call back. The snake scene was great too. I actually had trouble following the logistics of the plot and that bothered me more that the wacky alien stuff and over indulgence of cutesy animals, of which I blame Lucas.

What about the appearance of Mr. Widmore! Clearly he was Mr. Widmore time travelling from the island.

The Exchange is opening here in November but I think they are changing the name to The Changeling - unless Clint has two movies coming out.

The plot had indeed lacking logistics, probably because the premise was already way out there. I guess you can't avoid cutesy animals when talking about Lucas. I think he's always the one that gave the Ewoks their own movie when they were the most irritating thing in Star Wars, not that I have seen it. God, the snake scene completely cracked me up for life. And thankfully there was Marion back, not that I had problems with the others but as he said, the others weren't her.

Clearly he was Mr. Widmore time travelling from the island.

Absolutely!

I also knew that the name was The Changeling and I don't know why it's become The Exchange now. Oh well.. I could only wish for another two movies in one year! That was probably too much good. November? I hoped before but guess it means it opens in December here... well, I guess it's going to be worth the wait. All the reviews I read were glowing.

Since I first watched Return of the Jedi when I was six, I will sheepishly admit a fondness for ewoks. And the Ewok's own movie was big news in grade 3 class!

Well in that case that's justified ;) ! I actually watched it fully at.. uhm... sixteen or so (I had seen the first Star Wars at ten or something, then the new trilogy which I don't like much to be honest and then the old one in full again, and of Empire Strikes Back and the Return I had only seen bits and pieces) and at that time I sort of ignored them and concentrated all of my attention on Han Solo, but that's my shallow fangirlish side *sighs*.

I don't think there are worst movies in existance than the new triology. Seriously they make the old goofy Ewok sequences look like something out of Citizen Kane. Han Solo and Chewie are my favourite parts of the old triology and I spent my girlhood wanting to be Princess Leia.

The second and the third of the new one were just terrible. I'm probably the only one in the world who thinks that the first one was the less horrible, but that's because Ewan McGregor is one of my favorite actors and I love Liam Neeson and so I just noticed the eye candy. The Ewoks in comparison definitely were Citizen Kane! But I couldn't know the worst from the second or the third. If there's one thing I'd love to see is Mel Brooks doing another Spaceballs and mocking the new trilogy.

Totally agree on the last part. Leia kicked ass and she surely got herself an handsome boyfriend!

I love Ewen too and had such high hopes for young Obi Wan. His scenes with Liam were his only good opportunities. After Liam's character died, 90% of his interactions were with CGI creatures and it seemed like he didn't want to be there.

I subscribe it totally. I think that he said someplace that he didn't like the CGI stuff but he had contractual obligations and had to shoot all the movies. I can't blame him. After the episode I Liam scenes (in which thankfully they both did a good job) the rest was either CGI or Hayden Christensen and well, let's say that sometimes I thought that CGIs acted better than the latter. That might be me not standing the guy but I spent #2 and #3 wanting to hurt him or something. Also, computerized Yoda wasn't as good as the old one. I just prefer real sets instead of green screens, for how much Lucas can think high of it.

Natalie Portman didn't fare well either. Well, there over now and luckily the new Indy didn't succumb to the same fate.
