Okay, so two ficlets for today's Queens at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee

Title: I Don't Need the Same
Characters: Boone, Shannon
Word counting: 550
Rating: PG13, still implies half-incest ;)
Disclaimer: Meh, not mine.
Spoilers: Nothing past Abandoned.
Summary: It takes dying to make them realize that maybe they had it all wrong all along and maybe two hours to realize that what hasn’t worked when they were alive won’t work now that they aren’t.
A/N: this one is for Queen [livejournal.com profile] kayim who favors Shannon and Boone. As I need more excuses to write those two, even if this isn't probably anything you had in mind. I hope I get you to buy it though ;) using also for [livejournal.com profile] un_love_you #27, author's choice (better as friends).

It takes dying to make them realize that maybe they had it all wrong all along and maybe two hours to realize that what hasn’t worked when they were alive won’t work now that they aren’t.

The first time she tries to bicker with him, just for the sake of old times, he gives her a mostly annoyed answer and she can’t find a remark after two sentences. They don’t have to pretend to hate each other now, they’re alone and they’re both dead; what point is in there?

When she asks him whether he feels any need to have a second Sydney, he replies that he doesn’t and she says she’s sorry. He says he forgave her a long time ago and that it doesn’t really matter right now. She agrees and thinks that he really hasn’t changed much, underneath it all.

Three days after Shannon dies, Boone asks her whether she missed the old times. Which translates in, whether she missed when she was twelve, he was fourteen, he never thought about her that way, they both didn’t need money and they were just, well, friends. Because they had been until a certain point and it had been probably the healthiest point of their relationship in twelve years.

She answers that she sort of does; he says that at this point why not trying it again? They have moved on anyway, sort of, before... well, dying, right? She says fine, let’s try it.

It works and while it would have been better if they realized it sooner, they don’t complain. Better late than never.

They are alone for a while, apart from Arzt and someone else that doesn’t want anything to do with them anyway; it doesn’t feel as claustrophobic as they’d have thought. All the contrary.

He admits to her that he still has a sort of crush on Jack; she says she had one, too, before Sayid, and they just have a laugh about it. They watch the people at camp and he doesn’t feel as ashamed as he would have thought when he indulges her as she relents into her gossiping habits, though there isn’t any malice in it. She doesn’t laugh when she realizes that his crush on Jack is far from gone and whenever her hand is on his shoulder or the contrary, it doesn’t feel weird or wrong as it felt before because there’s just nothing behind it. They don’t have a serious argument because there just isn’t the need, he feels comfortable around her like he never felt since years, she lets his hand close around her waist whenever she’s back from seeing how Sayid is doing. They even manage to have some fun sometimes, regardless of the situation, especially when they start keeping bets about what happens around the camp. It’s kind of a silly thing to do, but it’s fun and Shannon doesn’t see why they shouldn’t have any.

It’s just feels natural for Shannon to answer yes when Arzt approaches her one day with a sort of suspicious frown and asks her whether he’s become her best friend now or something. It’s just the way it is and she can’t help smiling secretly to herself when Arzt asks Boone the same thing and he gives the same answer.

End.

Title: Laying It Down
Pairing: Jack, Sawyer
Word counting: 550
Rating: PG13 to be sure
Disclaimer: Not mine, you'd have had J/S sex in Catch 22 if they did.
Spoilers: Up to Catch 22.
Summary: Jack takes the deck of cards out of his pocket, putting it over a pile of books standing next. “I thought that maybe you’d like a re-match.”
A/N: while this one is for Queen [livejournal.com profile] siluria who favors Jack and Sawyer, hoping that I managed to deliver ;) the title utterly sucks but I couldn't find a better one *sigh*.

It doesn’t take Jack much to do the maths.

Kate said the same thing in the kitchen last night.

So you guys ate together, huh?

No, Juliet and I had dinner together last night.

He’s kind of ashamed of having sort of overheard Sawyer and Kate’s conversation a couple of hours later or so, but hey, he was passing by, he couldn’t have avoided it.

He sighs and brings a hand to his head. He doesn’t have an idea of what he should do right now. After all, after what he saw of, well, the cage, he had thought it was pretty obvious and that Kate had made a choice. Right? In the sense, what should any reasonable person think about it? He had assumed that they were together.

Seems like he got it at least half wrong and the only result is that he’s seriously beginning to get an headache. He can’t for the life of him figure out what’s going on in Kate’s head, it’s beyond him, but he has a pretty clear idea of what is going on in Sawyer’s and he can’t help feeling sorry. Then he thinks about another exchange he had with him, not much time ago even if it looks like ages passed since then.

Ana, she jumped me. We got caught in a net.

Why are you telling me this, Sawyer?

Because you're about the closest thing I've got to a friend, Doc.

And well, Jack did consider him a friend, all things considered, and yes, he did feel sorry right now, and no, he wasn’t really jealous of whatever he had with Kate, or maybe he sort of was because there are things you can’t get over in two weeks, but he figured that if she still needed to make up her mind it didn’t mean that he and Sawyer should be at odds, all things considered.

To hell with it, he thinks while going towards Claire’s tent, since he’s pretty sure that Charlie had what he needs but he hasn’t seen him around.

--

“Sawyer?”

Sawyer raises his head from The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, lowering the glasses a bit, a small frown draped over his features.

“Doorbell’s really busted these days.”

“What?”

“Nothin’. What do you want?”

Jack takes the deck of cards out of his pocket, putting it over a pile of books standing next.

“I thought that maybe you’d like a re-match.”

The frown becomes more questioning.

“Why?”

“Why not? I just figured it could be more fun than last time. You know, no stakes.”

Sawyer puts both book and glasses away, motioning for Jack to sit as he slips on the ground from the airplane seat, raising his head and looking straight at Jack again.

“Well, why not. One could use a distraction.”

He picks a large book from the pile, the only hardcover one; Jack wouldn’t have ever thought of ever playing poker over a copy of War and Peace. Then Sawyer turns and takes a couple of warm cans of Dharma beer from a bag he kept close near there, passing one at Jack after opening it.

“Ain’t no proper game without a nice drink. You dealin’?”

Jack takes a sip of beer and then starts mixing the cards.

“Fine, I’m dealing.”

End.

these are both really nice.
I love the first one because it makes me happy, thinking at Shannon and Boone as best friends, at peace with each other if not with all the world.
And the second one has Jack, Sawyer, Cavalier and Klay(!), poker... what's not to love?
Plus, Doorbell’s really busted these days. Lol.

Heee, I needed to sneak that book in. I finished it like, a month ago and I'm still re-reading bits and pieces, every two days or so. Now that was a good one *sigh*. Anyway, thank you! I'm really glad you liked these both, I personally love Boone and Shannon when they're at peace with each other. And those other two too ;) though I'll leave to your imagination if Jack's visit ended like the other time the doorbell was busted ;)
