Or, this is where I rec you a bunch of stuff I read in the last two weeks. Premise: it's probably all Dean/Cas. I don't even remember if I saved stuff for other pairings. First, random news.
1) Not so good: my first final is eating my soul. I put it first just because it's the one I feel less motivated about and I want it out of my way, but between the industrial revolution and Galileo (who is seriously making me grow respect for anyone studying physics because seriously, so beyond me) and my teacher being apparently the kind who wants to 'make you reason' rather than starting from the books, I'm wanting to weep in frustration. I'm okay with reasoning. It's just that I don't care about half of what I should know and I barely get the other half. Ah well, if I blow it I can always try again in September, right.
2) In very good news: I opened my Dark Tower hardbacks at random after years of not touching them and I found money in both. On one side I'm kicking myself because seriously, forgetting money inside books was something I did when I was twelve and I didn't need money in the first place. On the other side, it means I can now avoid touching my savings account when I get my next batch of expenses, so I'll just be happy. XD
3) In awesome news: my Dark Tower shirt from RedBubble.com (the place where they lovingly craft and tenderly package shirts) arrived and it's amazing. I want to wear it forever. And I want to marry whoever runs that site and shipped it in a week and a half making me pay five euros for the shipping instead of the usual ten with a three week wait.
4) And after saddling you all with my stuff, I'm giving you a bunch of recs! Most is D/C, most is fic. I'll put the first two here and the rest under a cut.
Supernatural, Dean/Castiel
a) The Shape of Flight by
destina;
Maybe there's something better down this road than all the roads before it. ; Dean/Castiel, Sam. PG, 2,142 words, no warnings, set post 6x22
There's a lot I loved about this. It tells a complete story with a relatively short length, it's written in second person POV and it's done extremely well (and I love myself some second person POV), it provides a great take on the 6x22 aftermath and the writing itself is just gorgeous, with everyone being perfectly IC.
b) Two colors by
fossarian;
Dean gives Castiel what he wants, and then he gives a little more.Dean/Castiel, PG13, 2300 words, set after 6x22; no warnings.
Okay, this is hands down one of the best codas to the finale I've read until now. And in the ambiguity department it's probably my favorite. The only way I can define it is creepily sweet - it doesn't make sense probably, but if you read it, it does. The characterizations are spot-on, I love this take on God!Cas, and you'll have to read it three times to realize how complex it is - it's so layered, you miss things on the first read. The imagery is great and I just love everything it chooses to be. It doesn't wrap things neatly in a bow and fix everything, it so doesn't, but I just love how many things about both Dean and Castiel it says.
c) the
glassyskies corner, or: I just realized that half of the fic I saved to rec was from the same author so I'll list them all here. Generally, I'd just like to state that I love this author's writing. She has such a gorgeous prose even if she doesn't write uber-long pieces, which I always love. And she made me half-cry with most of these. Also some have been recced all over the place already but they always deserve another round of reccing.
- History of love, Dean/Castiel, AU-ish future!fic (from S5), PG13, 3400 words. After he falls, Castiel begins to forget pieces of his life as an angel. So he sets out to write it all down.
This one just gutted me in the best way. The concept (Castiel losing his memories and who he is by default, but needing to lose them in order to stay human) is great, but the execution is just flawless. The bits and pieces of Castiel's writing are heart-wrenching. And the whole thing is amazing.
- Home Already, Dean/Castiel (it's stated sort of, but imo it's not just sort-of), PG, 565 words, spoilers for 6x22; warning for character death. After his fight is over, Castiel finds his own piece of Heaven. If the one I recced before was gutting this one is beyond that. I think my eyes got wet and it's not even 1000 words. It's incredibly sad but at the same time it's half-hopeful even if it really isn't. Just read it because I can't make justice to the gorgeousness of it all.
- Dialect of the Everlasting, Dean/Castiel, PG, 945 words. Castiel takes Dean’s soul on an adventure in love. In contrast to the other two, this one actually leaves you feeling happy. And the writing itself is just gorgeous. I loved the imagery.
- Homing Pigeons, Dean/Castiel, PG13, 3900 words, spoilers for 6x22. The story of How Dean Saves Castiel (or How Castiel Saves Dean), through the eyes of Sam Winchester (and How Sam Maybe Saves Them Both). I think this is my favorite fix-it I've read until now, mostly because it doesn't skim over anything. It does fix things, but it does it realistically and it isn't an easy thing. I loved the Sam POV, because it gives a fresh perspective on the entire situation while not making you lose Dean or Castiel's side of things. I loved what happened with God!Cas for the first part of the fic, and the ending is just perfect. And there's some pretty great dialogue.
Actually, check all of her stuff. I'm stopping here or I'll rec all the rest, lol.
Fic, actually NOT Dean/Castiel
d) Wait for the sound, Jimmy/Amelia, Claire. R, 1600 words. Set at some point in the future. Jimmy Novak comes home.
Basically, this is Novaks being happy. And being happy in a way that's totally gorgeous and IC and oh dear just reading about Jimmy being this happy made me grin for an hour. Go read it. It's good for your soul.

Basically,
slinkymilinky had this awesome idea of doing a collaborative D/C mix where you made a graphic and posted a song or two that you think fit, and which then got all grouped. I ended up there and I had a lot of fun doing the two I went for, but really, the ending result is just gorgeous. The song choice is all awesome, but the art for it is just gorgeous, and I figured I could rec it too because it really came out great.
Aand that's all I have for now. See you next time when I actually might have something that isn't just Dean/Castiel.
5) I'm almost done editing my
spn_j2_bigbang story. One week later than stated, but see point one. Now I'll just take the evening off and do the one for the Balthazar exchange, then I'm writing the dc_everafter one between this stupid final and the other and then I'll get started on the Dean/Cas bigbang at some point after July 11th. And I'll try to finish something else in between, one that I should have finished a year ago especially. Oh fic, why can't I just spend my time writing you.
6) Also, I started reading Game of Thrones. I probably won't finish it before finals are over, and I'm also very scared of having done something very stupid since apparently no one is safe and I tend to take it badly (aka: cry for four hours with people asking me who died in RL) if fictional people I like are killed off, but then again I wanted to give it a try. I didn't really get far into it, but the writing itself is really good. I'm looking forward to getting to a point where I actually know who everyone is. Even though I hope I do finish it soon since I had to block GOT related things from my tumblr dash after getting spoiled for one death I hadn't known from Wikipedia. I'll put it back on when I'm done though. Also I'm still not getting a lot of stuff re tumblr, but then again as long as I can save pretty pictures I'm good.
7) Uhm, I think it's all for now. And this post is already too long. Right, I'll see if I can write that exchange fic, hoping I'm not brain dead from cramming.

Date: 2011-06-18 08:29 pm (UTC)Do you know when the Balthazar exchange fic is due? I haven't started mine yet.
I will be gone til Tuesday, so if you send your fic & don't hear anything from me to let you know I got it, that's why.
Game of Thrones - I also get very upset with character death, but I think I'm glad I've read the books. That is, once I started I found I couldn't stop, even when my heart got ripped out and torn to shreds. The books are very addictive. I guess they're like Lost, in that way. And like Lost, some folks get bitter & disillusioned and quit and some soldier on til the end despite everything. Just know that, whatever you do, GoT will break you.
Good luck on the final!

Date: 2011-06-18 08:37 pm (UTC)It's July 14th if I'm not wrong. :) and it's still almost a month before it's due so I probably can wait a bit, but I don't want to write it in the last three days before the deadline.
Oh, okay :) no problem, also because unless I manage to get through it again tomorrow I'm not sure I'll manage to finish those edits before said final. Anyway if I send it before then I won't freak out. ;)
Character death usually upsets me a lot if I'm invested - I guess I'll just try not to get TOO invested in anyone, but my favorites usually bite it first. Oh well, I was warned. But I'm liking it so far so I guess I'll join the club, get addicted and curse myself after. I try to think that nothing can get worse than what was the Dark Tower for me (aka: the ending slayed me in every possible wrong way), but we'll see if this one takes the crown.
Thank you! :) *crosses fingers*
