Ok, this is about my pending school exams; it's a thing for which I'd really use some advice, if you have time and will to give me some...

Ok, è riguardo gli esami di maturità.. per i quali sinceramente un consiglio non mi farebbe proprio male...

The question is this one. The exams I'll have in a month and a half are the ones which close the high school, here, and give you access to university. So they are extremely important. And in the oral exam you have to bring a little thesis about something you liked on the program, which has to comprehend more than one subject. And that's the deal, because I have two ideas and I can't choose. So, if you can give me a hand I'd appreciate it ^^

Thesis one: How history is transmitted and changed; I'd bring Orwell's 1984 and The animal farm and I'd get some links with the Russian revolution and Stalin's leadership after, with Marx in philosophy and historicians for Latin and Greek;

Thesis two: I'd bring T.S. Eliot's The waste land [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Waste_Land], which would make me able to make links with pretty much everything on the program. I've got them with greek and latin, with history, with philosophy, even with Italian and with poets like Verlaine and Baudelaire which I love.

Points in favour of n. 1: 1984 is my favourite book ever and Orwell one of my favourite writers, I know him much better than I know Eliot, so I'd be on a sure target. I've got a defined era, I really like the subject and I think that it's very intriguing. Points against: some links are kind of forced and the historicians are what I like less in Greek and Latin; and I'd have to bring an italian writer which we didn't study.

Points in favour of n.2: it's much more fascinating as a subject, I can do all the links I want, I love that poem, it has influences on pretty much half of the English literature of the 20th century, in the end it's tempting me, also because it could provide subjects which are far more interesing than the ones in the other thesis. Points against: the subject is MUCH, MUCH wider; I could not be able to synthesize everything and i could lose myself in that, considering also that I don't know The waste land as well as I know 1984. I had the other idea first so I know where I'm heading to; if I chose this, I'd have to do a triple job and as they're totally different subjects I can't take anything off the other one, I'd have to start from zero. And Eliot is an american writer and here we usually don't to American literature. But doing a thesis on a poem which among the other things has a verse like I'll show you fear in a handful of dust which I find sublime... well, it's tempting and my eyes sparkle at the idea.

Anyway I'm bringing two conceptual maps to my two recommended teachers XD and I'll ask them too, but I'd like some advice on this anyway....

La questione è la tesina. Mi manca un mese e sono impanicata come non mai perchè ho due alternative e non so davvero quale scegliere. Quindi se avete tempo/voglia di darmi una mano...

Tesina uno: Il modo in cui si trasmette la storia e la si falsifica; porterei Orwell sia con 1984 sia con la fattoria degli animali, in storia mi collegherei con la rivoluzione russa e Stalin dopo, di filosofia potrei portare Marx specialmente per quanto riguarda le ideologie, di latino e greco avrei degli storici da confrontare (latino) e una questione su come si deve fare storiografia che c'è stata con degli storici greci secondo secolo avanti cristo circa, di italiano c'è da decidere ma sarei orientata su Gramsci;

Tesina due: Porterei la Terra desolata di Eliot per inglese [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Waste_Land per chi fosse interessato], che praticamente mi permette di fare collegamenti con qualsiasi cosa. Ho collegamenti con greco e latino, con storia, con filosofia, per italiano visto che cita anche Dante e un tot di altra gente, per non parlare di Omero, della tragedia greca, pure i poeti maledetti francesi XD

Punti a favore della tesina uno: 1984 è il mio libro preferito e lo conosco come pochi altri; e anche Orwell è uno dei miei autori preferiti, quindi con quello vado sul sicuro. Il periodo storico è definito, mi piace come argomento. Punti contro: alcuni collegamenti sono effettivamente forzati, mi dovrei buttare sugli storici greci che sono la parte di programma che mi piace di meno (idem con i latini), dovrei portare Gramsci che non abbiamo fatto.

Punti a favore della tesina due: sicuramente è molto più affascinante come argomento, permette collegamenti infiniti, il poema mi piace da morire, ha influenze successive su gran parte della narrativa del novecento, insomma mi tenta parecchio visto che forse potrei parlare anche di cose più interessanti che non un discorso tecnico come quello della tesina uno. Punti contro: il discorso è MOLTO più vasto, potrei non riuscire a circoscrivere quello che voglio dire e finire per perdermi. L'altra idea mi era venuta prima quindi ce l'ho già ben pianificata, se facessi questa dovrei fare un lavoro triplo perchè non ho niente di pronto ed è totalmente un'altra cosa, quindi non posso riciclare argomenti della prima. Ciò non toglie che fare una tesina su un poema che tra le migliaia di altre cose dice ti mostrerò la paura in una manciata di polvere mi fa sbrilluccicare gli occhi all'idea.

Che ne dite? In ogni caso faccio due mappe concettuali che faccio vedere ai miei professori di fiducia, ma intanto..
