1. European elections in two days. And I don't even know who the hell are the candidates except for one. Also, I'll probably go voting with my head again and I probably will want to vent come Monday. Blah. If I think about how excited I was about voting when I still couldn't vote I feel like crap. :/

2. But, yesterday I went and just took my way-too-old copy of Norton antivirus out of the computer (I have another one anyway) and... er. It hadn't been so fast in... one year or so. It's way faster, it doesn't crash as much as before and it didn't take ten minutes to load, this morning. Duh. Had I known it before I'd have taken it off six months ago.

3.

You know. This one almost makes it look like a... I don't want to say good, but at least not-lame show. The preview made it look totally lame, the short trailer not so much, but this one actually makes it look nice. Or at least, it makes it seem like the girl can half-act and even if I'm still not sold on the good brother he looks way less out of place. Even if really, all I care about is His Prettiness smirking. Christ, I mean. This thing will be the death of me. Leather and smirking. Can I hope it gets at least two seasons?

Also, it made me LOL that in the comments someone noticed that it's the same high school where they shot the After School Special SPN episode. LOL. Like I wasn't crossovering this shit with SPN already as soon as it airs, lol. CW, CW, you really cut on the budget. Even though the idea that His Prettiness shoots on former SPN sets is somewhat alluring.

4. I finished Anansi Boys, which only confirmed my opinion that Neil Gaiman is too awesome for this world. Except that I think that I've read everything he has written except Stardust which I probably will skip because it's just not my thing. But still. This one was awesome.

5. I stand of my opinion. Everyone says that Heidegger is the greatest philosopher of this century because no-one ever understood a thing of what he meant except maybe Heidegger himself.

6. I finally managed to listen to Steve Earle's latest record and OMG!! ♥ Fine, it's all covers and I need to find the originals but OMG! It's SO good!! *draws hearts*

7. So, I should probably go buying groceries. Then go studying whatever Kant has to do with history of medicine. And then post fic from one of those two kink memes sometime this afternoon. And meanwhile trying to finish one fic that I intend to enter for the fix-it challenge at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee. Or at least the first draft. Which means I'll be off after this incredibly interesting entry.

8. But, I'll leave you with this awesome thing that popped up some Bruce community last day.

Robert De Niro stole his famous "You talkin' to me?" Taxi Driver movie line from rock legend Bruce Springsteen. The line, which De Niro's character recites to himself in the 1976 Martin Scorsese movie, has become one of the most famous movie quotes of all time.

And the acting legend has confessed it was inspired by a trip to a Springsteen concert, while he was preparing for the role.
De Niro made the admission to Springsteen's bandmate Clarence Clemons - who coached the actor to play the saxophone for movie New York, New York. Clemons tells the New York Daily News, "(He) had been to one of our concerts and the audience was yelling out 'Bruce!' In those days, Bruce would stop onstage and say, 'You talkin' to me?' "De Niro was kind of channeling him."

I mean, it's not like Bruce didn't have an already divinity-like status with me, but this? I mean. ♥

I still need to finish Anansi Boys. For some reason I stopped with like 150 pages left.
And you should read Stardust! It's sweet and a really easy read. I can't remember how Neil put it, but it's not meant to be all deep and stuff. It's suppose to be like ice cream; just there to make you happy for a while.

Have you read the childrens stuff as well? Like Wolves In The Walls, The Day I Swapped MYyDad For Two Goldfish or Coraline? Allt hose exist in gorgeous illustrated version. Oh that reminds me. I need to read MirrorMask. Watched the movie yesterday and it was gorgeous as well.

Oh, have you read Odd And The Frost Giants? It's kind atricky to get your hands on, that's why I ask.

Which is your favourite of his btw?
Mine has to be Smoke and Mirrors. I just love hsi short stories SO MUCH!
(omg how much do I look forward to the Who Killed Amanda Palmer Book? Neil's stories and beautiful photos with one of the coolest women in the world... dead. Two months til I get it! eehp!)

Bruce is awesome. End of story.

Of the children's things I only read Coraline and The Graveyard Book, which was my favorite of the two. If I get the chance to get my hands over the other three you said I'm totally, totally going for them. And thanks for the rec! I might give it a go when they have discounts here or when I find a very economic edition.

Anansi Boys gets better. I had kinda left it around page 150 already but then picked it up again yesterday and I went and finished it in one go. It picks up around page 200 or so but then it's a total blast. And crap, I forgot Smoke and Mirrors. Which I'll get asap, at least they sell that one around here. ;) Mm. Not counting Good Omens because it's co-authored... probably American Gods. Not that original but I just loved the hell out of it and I'm still recovering from its awesomeness. And I read it six months ago so figure it out. ;)

Dave McKean is such a brilliant illustrator. You really should check em out. I haven't read Coraline in that version (just the normal kind with some regular illustrations thrown in. I think I even own it *laugh*) But Ellen, a friend from school, owns All three I think (Coraline, Wolves and Goldfish) and I looked through them and they are just so amazing. I think I read all of Wolves in the Walls, but I've only listened properly to The Day I Swapped MY Dad For Two Goldfish.

Smoke and Mirrors is amazing! Fragile Things isn't as good, but still short stories so XD
Oh, and then you have M is for Magic. A few short stories for children. Haven't read it myself but listened to the audiobook version.

Good Omens is so made of win. Combining Neil and Terry creates magic XD
I really need to re-read it, and this time in English. I read it so very long ago, when my English wasn't good enough to appreciate the book fully you know?

I shall finish Anansi Boys when I'm done with my animal sex book *laugh*

oh also, go here and scroll down til you see a big picture of some people poking on a drowned woman. There you have a little snippet/short story from Who Killed Amanda Palmer ^^(and yeah, that's of course Amanda being all lovely and dead in the stream)

From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
Oh, I love McKean. He also illustrated one of the Dark Tower books so I knew him before I went into the Gaiman frenzy, he's so good. I'll probably get Smoke and Mirrors next time I hit a bookshop -nod- it's not like I can find it in English in a library anyway.

Good Omens is AWESOME. I love the heck out of it. It's some of the best stuff I've read lately, it was such a blast. And ha, considering that Anansi Boys has a lot of animals in the second part it's just the thing to read after a book on animal sex, lol. ;)

And thanks for the link!

Oh, have you seen the movie MirrorMask?
I have meant to eatch it for years but just got aorund to it this week. So beautiful! You can really see that it's McKean who's behind the illustrations and imagery (yeah, it's actualyl a live action movie. But you still see it's his art work). And Neil wrote the story. And the Jim Henson Company was involved in the animations/cgi stuff. They made my absolute favourite tv show of all time. So I seriously don't understand WHY I didn't see the movie until now O.o

To be honest, I was waiting for these elections but now I'm just annoyed with them because the candidates are.. just.. maybe Finnish politics have just been pissing me off way too much lately because damn I strongly dislike 90% of the parties too.

Whoa, I have Norton and this computer is insanely slow and keeps crashing. Now I want to delete it but we wouldn't have another virus scan then and we've already paid for it this year - even though we had problems with it and then simply gave up because it's so confusing and useless anyway, haha.

Date: 2009-06-04 10:03 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
I was waiting for my first elections and seriously, it was a letdown. IDK about your politics but our politics right now are a very, very sad place. And what is supposed to be my side actually is split into two smaller parties which don't have any chance in hell to get 4%, which means that I'll end up voting the biggest opposition party which more than left is center with a speckle of left and they'll all end up losing anyway and I'll be depressed. Ugh.

Uuuuhm, if you already paid then it wouldn't be that great to take it off, but with me it was probably also Norton crashing with my other antivirus, and I stopped paying for Norton like five years ago. But you wouldn't believe how much this thing has sped up since I took it off, and I've had it for six years and a half.

Are your elections on Saturday? I keep changing my mind too, but in lack of better options, I'll probably vote for the Socialist party like I always do, simply hoping they won't screw it up this time. What can I say, I'm a die-hard optimist! :P

I HATE the Twilight feeling Vampire Diaries gives me, but dark!Ian/crows/fog and all that jazz totally make up for it! And now I'm all excited about the prospect of an SPN crossover from you! :D

Date: 2009-06-04 10:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
Saturday and Sunday. Blah. I'd probably vote for the Socialist party if there freaking WAS a socialist party which isn't with the right wing. (Seriously. Socialists here are with the right wing. SHOOT ME.) There is a big center-left party which is the main opposition which until now has fucked it up and two small left-wing parties which of course couldn't merge into one and which won't ever reach 4%, so I'll probably vote for the bigger one even if my heart bleeds at the thought. Blah. Everything but my PM, but seriously, what choices do I have.

I hate it too, but I can't even blame them because the books were written before Twilight so I'll just have to endure. And dark!Ian-who-becomes-a-crow is... GAAAH. I'm so slashing him with Dean as soon as I see the pilot, lol.

Date: 2009-06-04 10:18 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] marylou-gr.livejournal.com
Ugh, why do all left-wing parties have to do that? We have two here too and they seem to fight more with each other than with the right-wing, instead of actually merging and standing a chance. It drives me crazy! Our Socialist party is probably only socialist in name these days, they lean more towards the center with several left tendencies here and there. I'm mainly voting for them because I just can't stand to see the right-wing win again, I can't.

And now I officially CAN'T wait! :D

Date: 2009-06-04 10:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
Seriously, is being left-wing a synonym for masochism? If they just freaking MERGED but no, they have not only to split from the bigger party, but also between themselves. *sigh* You're so right about the anything-but-right-wing though, except that here it's not even a question. I mean, I know they're winning already, the point is see how badly will the center-left party lose. ;) If they don't lose too badly then we stand a chance in four years... maaaybe.

And HA, I'll be glad to provide when it starts! I'm seriously way too excited. More than it deserves, probably. ;)

The elections... *sighs* I wish I had my ideas clear about that, but I really don't. I always go voting because it's that right we have and we have to use it, but when it comes to European elections the task seems really complicated.

Date: 2009-06-04 01:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
I wish I had too, but basically, it all boils down to not voting for my PM and either voting one of two small parties which will lose without a doubt since they couldn't even merge or the bigger opposition one which it's bound to lose. How badly, is another question, but still. I don't even know who are the candidates yet, and that's saying everything.

Good luck with Kant and medical history. I remember this medical anthropology class I once took and the prof kept referencing Kant every five minutes.

Mr. E.S. still hasn't read American Gods because he only reads on vacations we haven't gone on one in over a year. Maybe he'll bring it to San Francisco. If not, I will steal it and read it first. I saw the movie Stardust and thought it was awful. Coraline the movie, however, was excellent.

Are you writing the Locke's leg get crushed instead of Boone's for the challenge? I haven't come up with anything. My main issues are with S4 and S5. Maybe I could do something about Michael standing up to Ben or eliminating all the quad drama from early S3.

Did you ever watch Steve Earle 10 second cameo on 30 Rock?

Date: 2009-06-04 01:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
Thanks! He's not that bad actually. I mean, after two years I did get more or less how he goes. It's the Heidegger part that I'm afraid I won't ever get, but I'll deal. ;)

Stardust has exactly the plot I don't care for, which is why I'm not to keen on reading the book. I didn't see the Coraline movie but I read the book and I really liked it. I'll probably go see the movie when it's out here. And do steal American Gods if you manage! ;)

Eeeeh, I'm trying to finish the famous one which I should have sent you to beta where basically Boone tells about the hatch sometime after Hearts and Minds and therefore I'd fix the fall (since it didn't happen) and a couple of other issues along the way, but if I can't manage to finish it I'll probably go with writing one ex-novo where Locke gets crushed instead. I like the Michael-standing-up-to-Ben idea! That'd be so cool, and probably way fairer to poor Mike than whatever he had to do in canon.

Nope but I'm downloading that episode. When I do I'll be sure to post about it. ;)

Oh, I'm taking them seriously. In theory. Because it's not like the candidates are taking them seriously. That's mostly what's putting me off. That and my PM winning again, but whatever. It's not like Italy's people don't have the record for being the most absent ones in there anyway... *sigh*

I *HEART* Neil Gaiman. I need to go pick up more of his stuff, stat -- I used to read it all the time in high school, but kind of dropped off since then. I never got to Stardust, but I surprised myself by loving the movie -- have you seen it?

My best friend is a Kant fanatic; I only took political philosophy (like Locke, hee!) in uni, though, so whatever she says about him goes waaaay over my head. Heidegger too. More props to you guys for actually being able to study and retain the stuff! :D

Date: 2009-06-04 10:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com
I haven't seen the movie because it's the kind of plot I don't care about, but everyone has been reccing it to me now so I'll probably check it out. Gaiman is just so great! I loved Sandman already even if I sadly own just three or four issues (good comics seriously are too pricey here), but when I started reading the novels I just couldn't put them down. American Gods is probably my favorite.

HA, your BF is awesome!!! I actually never managed to understand Locke but after two years of practically doing Kant only I've come to appreciate the guy. When he isn't blathering about how your head works he isn't that bad. Heidegger was a complete idiot though. No excuse. And that one goes completely over my head too. ;) And ha, thanks! I can't get the props for Heidegger because I'll never get him, but I'll take the Kant. ;)
