janie_tangerine: (ARE YOU SERIOUS?)
[personal profile] janie_tangerine
1. Between yesterday and today, I think I can divide the last twenty-four hours in pro/cons:

Pros: I got recced. While on the bus yesterday because I was going to a friend's birthday dinner I had a moment of enlightenment re the three fic exchanges I signed up for. I decided which prompt I'm doing for the Lost Hohoho one (I was still undecided), I planned what was left of the crossover one and mostly I realized what I need to write for the Dean/Cas one. I didn't do the wordcount I needed for the bigbang #2 but I'm quite into it and I'm pretty sure I'll manage it in a couple of days. And next week I don't have one class at all, which is definitely a pro.

Cons: I didn't do the wordcount I needed (well, that's a con), my phone charger is still dead and I can't and won't spend another twenty-five euros on it since I had bought it two months ago, I went to bed at three AM (not that I complain, the birthday dinner was awesome) and now I kind of want to go to sleep but can't and worst thing, I didn't get the job. :// I'm kind of not quite pleased with it right now because they used a system where they gave you points based on the weighted average between grades and the relation between the credits you have at this point and the credits you should have by now given the year and the number of exams. And it ended up with at least seven people arriving before me who had a lower weighted average but a higher relation and at least six having a higher weighted average and a lower relation. Which means that if someone gave four exams in two years when he should have given ten but got the maximum on them all that person was above me anyway even if I'm at the third year and given way more exams even without having all maximums. And at least five people who got in were running late (I'm not, or not yet anyway) and I didn't get it for five places. Argh, I don't really want to whine about it but I could have really used some money. :// Whatever, if six people decide they don't want it after all then I guess I might still get in, but I really can't see it happening. *sigh* Ah, whatever. I'll see if I can find something else.

2. After I post this I'll go checking out some place doing yoga near here. Maybe I can start again since last year I had too much stuff on my hands and couldn't find the time to go where I did it before. And I'd probably benefit if I took it up again.

3. Memes! One from [livejournal.com profile] bold_seer, one from [livejournal.com profile] catoasapun.

a) 1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Whoo!

Mine:

1. icon by [livejournal.com profile] wentmillerfan: oh, I love it. It's kind of perfect, if you look at it. I mean, apart from me loving the hell out of Misha's face in there, the expression is just so perfect for putting that halo above him. The composition is great and I kind of like it way too much. Mm, Misha.

2. icon by me: ha, okay, I have an insane love for Clint Eastwood. Current and not current. I realize it's not healthy, but anyway, not the point. I just love him in the Leone trilogy and I wanted an icon from it. I did that one for a challenge where they gave you the cap, but it fit because it's from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly which I ♥ and I'm pretty satisfied with it even if I made it some two years ago. The you dig is a quote from the movie which is pretty much epic imo, even if he didn't say that in that scene specifically.

3. icon by [livejournal.com profile] dekolette: well, this one will be short. I need (and want, because I love her even if I used to love her more before S5) a Juliet icon (which I also use for Sawyer/Juliet related stuff, mostly because when I needed the space for Misha icons the one I had for the pairing went because while I do like it I'm not invested in it at all) and this one is very pretty. I love the cropping and the coloring and the lightening and her expression and just, it's pretty.

4. icon by [livejournal.com profile] lasamy: Mozart is my favorite classical composer by far and I wanted a Mozart icon. Also, I love Amadeus (the movie), despite it being not exactly historically accurate (srsly, poor Salieri, he wasn't that much of a bastard lol) and then [livejournal.com profile] lasamy made icons from it and I figured I'd steal one. This was my favorite of the bunch and just, it's pretty. And I can use it also for other stuff.

5. icon by [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster: I don't know if I'm the one person who has more than one Jimmy icon on rotation, but when I found this one I fell in love with it. I mean, look at it. It's so pretty and the lightening is done so well, I love the b/w and the text works perfectly and I need to have it. I ♥ it to little pieces. (Jimmy. ;__; I miss you.)

b) - Reply to this meme by typing "I want in on this shit."
- I will then give you 3-5 words that remind me of you.
- Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Warning: this is long. And I rambled. And if you like my current PM, I strongly advise to skip the last word.

Good Omens: aw, I love this book. I read it because I got into Neil Gaiman and I figured I'd check it out also because I found it mentioned a lot, but after two pages I was hooked. Mostly because they quoted Springsteen using born to lurk instead of born to run and that was when I was like, THIS IS AWESOME. And it was. I mean, it's an apocalypse which is crack on a stick with two awesome protagonists who are practically a canon pairing and the four horsemen of the Apocalypse going around on motorbikes and Death speaking in capslock, how can not you ♥ it? My favorite character is probably Crowley but just because he was the first appearing. If it had been Aziraphale he'd have been the one, I ♥ them both equally. And the humor is awesome and I can't recommend it enough.

Ian Somerhalder: er. I'm not surprised about this. Okay, so, while my love for Boone does not have everything to do with his looks (otherwise I'd have dropped the character after two episodes) I can't say that after I saw the guy's face for the first time I stared at the promo picture that it was for five minutes. And after I finished S1 of Lost I was like fine, he's really lovely and I think he's a good actor (shut up, he is, he just chooses awful movies), let's find some other stuff. And then I realized that whatever crap movie he did I would watch it anyway because I ♥ him and I think he's a really nice person from what I can see and he's a good actor and he played the fictional character that is totally my #2 fictional crush ever so yeah. And he even got me to watch a show about vampires who also go to high school. See what he makes me do. But I do it anyway. I can't exactly say he's my objectively favorite actor, but he's totally in my top five crushes. Hell yes.

Also, he has the prettiest eyes ever existed. Or something.

George Orwell: well, this fine nice English gentleman wrote my favorite book in the history of ever. I can't say that he's my favorite writer (that one is probably Dumas or Steinbeck), but point is, I read 1984 and it completely changed my way of looking at things/society/politics/the list could go on. Hell, I don't even use abbreviations while sending texts because after I read a chapter in the first part where he explains how the party is going to destroy language it included destroying proper spelling to say one. But it's not just about 1984 because then I read pretty much everything else he did and right now I'm going through a collection of non-prose which I was gifted with and amounts to something like 2500 pages and I just love his writing. His essays are so insightful and I think I probably learned more about Dickens reading an essay of his on the subject than at school. You know when you have intelligence leaking out from pages? More or less that's it.

(Also, if more people in this country read Animal Farm and then heard what is that my PM's lawyer says I have an idea that they'd stop voting for him. And I'm not saying that. The Times said that.)

Bruce Springsteen: so Bruce is my favorite singer. (I usually count BJ as my favorite group and cut it like that. ;) ) And, he's awesomeness incarnated. I'll admit I got into the man because when I was twelve I read that JBJ's favorite record is Born To Run but then I ended up becoming very, very obsessed. He writes the best lyrics that imo will ever be written if you don't count Dylan, I love that he's a totally down to earth person who genuinely loves what he does, he has the nicest back in the history of rock music imo (well yeah that's a perfectly nice reason *cough*), he has the best band that will ever be (ESB ♥) and his concerts are the best concerts that will ever be. And I consider myself very lucky of having seen him three times. I ♥ Bruce so.

Italy: premise: I love my country. I really do. I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, hell, I live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I love its literature, I love that we basically created opera (why, yeah, that's a good reason to be glad I know Italian, lol), I love its art (I mean. Arts. Here. YES.), I love its history (at least until the last century...) and if it was for that I'd be really proud of being born here.

Sadly, as things are, if someone told me I had a chance to move to Spain or France or whatever, I'd pack right this moment. What I think about my current PM (even if I didn't bitch about him in a while, but it's because I'd end up overstepping the limit for a LJ post) is no mystery, and it would translate in every possible bad thing under the sun. I mean, the latest news is that he's planning to reform the whole law system so that 99% of the penal trials going on INCLUDING HIS would get canceled. Including mafia trials. And about that, I don't want to talk about the four mafias or the level of corruption around here, not to mention tax evasion, bureaucracy which probably worked smoother when Napoleon introduced it. The policy regarding immigrates is imo not worthy of a civil country, gay rights are into the pure utopia realm, the school system is becoming a mess and no one in the government does anything about serious matters (apart from solving my PM's problems, of course). And job prospects look grim. At this point the only thing that works is the health care, if they don't start cutting money from there too. So I'd say, if you want to come visit, come visit and have a great time. If you want to move to another country, wait another twenty years at least. And if I didn't love my country I wouldn't be so disillusioned with it. I really do. I just don't like what people are doing with it.

4. And then today I came home and... new Misha promo pic from S5. Can that man be any more... *dies* I just think that it's kind of not exactly representative because I've never seen Cas wearing those clothes, not that I'd mind if he did wear them. Not that I care. Aw, Misha, thanks for sort of making my days nicer by being so lovely yourself.

5. Christmas cards post is here, if anyone else would like one? ;)

6. Okay, I think I'm pretty much done also because I rambled more than I had thought I would. O_o I'll be out checking out that yoga thing and then I'll get back to writing. And also editing the other bigbang. If I manage to read something at the gym then I can put all of that in the pros. *waves*

older stuff is even better, I agree! spnroundtable recced my Halloween fic from last year for the Halloween rec list and it made me both elated that omg, someone likes this enough to find it after a year and at the same time guilty that I didn't even try to write one this year (while I did the 2 years previous). oh well!

HA! well those are in my favorites, for sure! great selection! will do soon! =D
