janie_tangerine: (lost boone/shannon)

So, this morning the usual professor wasn't at the lecture. There was his assistant, who is a very nice and decent person but whenever she gives the lectures, the first half is a recap of what the main guy said in the three lectures before and the second half doesn't have a thing to do with the course. Which means I couldn't bring myself to follow closely and after some editing this is the result.

Title: Sentimental Journey
Rating: PG13 to be way sure (hey, it's always sorta incest.)
Characters/Pairing: Boone/Shannon
Word counting: 450
Disclaimer: If they were mine, he'd be alive and she'd have treated him better.
Spoilers: Set at the beginning of Hearts and Minds, but spoilerish for the whole episode. But come on, everyone has seen it, I hope ;)
Summary: The point is that since he met her, there really wasn’t a way out. He was stuck with her. Maybe she wasn’t with him, but he doubts it.
A/N: for [livejournal.com profile] 12_stories #4, betrayal, and day 3 at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee, tabula rasa. I think I found the only pairing with which I can't write more than 1000 words. Now I know what I'm going to write when I want to be short. The title had a nice ring and fit enough, but anyway, stolen as usual.

Boone knows that what he feels for Shannon is way wrong.

Alright, he wasn’t the one to perceive it as wrong, but in the real world you don’t fall in love with your sister, even if she’s your stepsister and you aren’t really related.

Boone figures he was doomed from the moment he saw her for the first time, when she still combed her hair in two separated braids and she wore a skirt so pink it made his eyes hurt. Of course he hadn’t fallen in love with Shannon at that point because it’d be nonsensical. It probably happened way later, but that surely is not the point. The point is that since he met her, there really wasn’t a way out. He was stuck with her. Maybe she wasn’t with him, but he doubts it. He’s fairly sure that what happened to him, happened to her. He was just smart enough to admit it to himself, while she hasn’t. Not yet.

She said it was over before it could even begin, but since she spoke that sentence, Boone had known that she was lying. Right, he hadn’t been able to tell that she was conning him of everything, but he’s safely positive that she wasn’t telling the truth when she sat in that chair and he was still sitting on the hotel’s bed.

Because sure, she was right, he had wanted her. But if she really didn’t want a thing to do with him, she wouldn’t have come at the hotel, for how desperate she could have been.

When he didn’t have anything better to do and he felt miserable enough, he used to dwell on this idea he had kept hidden in his imaginary skeleton closet for a while. Because, he thought, how good would that be to live in some kind of other reality where rules don’t apply and being with Shannon that way wouldn’t feel wrong?

A place where they could have made tabula rasa of all the mess their relationship was, or is, he doesn’t really know it, and just start it all over again. Maybe less clean on the rules that apply to society front, but surely way healthier on their mental sanity one. Because really, she’s been making him go crazy since she was old enough to understand that she could.

Now, it has happened, somewhat. Boone feels like he can really go for the tabula rasa option. He sees that Shannon can, too.

Not with him, though, and it feels like she betrayed him in the worst way she ever could. But this time, he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to put it away like he has always done.

End.

That was just perfect. It was pure Boone, and damn, he was right with all the tabula rasa idea. I miss them so bad.
Because really, she’s been making him go crazy since she was old enough to understand that she could. And THAT was really Shannon. Really, really Shannon.

Thank you so much!! Boone totally was my favorite character and still is if I have to do a chart with also the dead people, so it's great to know that I get him the right way.

Shannon totally enjoyed making him go crazy. Which is why I kinda hated her in the beginning, but then, she always was awesome, in her way. Thanks again for reading, glad you liked it! ♥
