scifibigbang #1. Yes. Two weeks later than the deadline, but I finished it. Argh. Now I need to finish #2 in like three days maximum but in this one I needed to figure plot out, in that one I don't. Which means it'll take a lot less. And my record was 10000 words in one day which means I'll try to re-do it. And then I can go doing my Christmas exchange fics (and thankfully two are already planned in my head) and then I can go and start doing things in time. Yes. That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2. Apparently, my master fic list doesn't fit into one post anymore. If I was able to do summaries without quoting from the actual fics then I wouldn't have the problem, but is seems like I'm not able. So sometime in the next week I'll probably split it in two and keep part I for Lost and part II for everything else, so if a random half of master fic list pops up on your fl next week just ignore it. ;)
3. I went to see The Men Who Stare At Goats and it's AWESOME. George Clooney + Ewan McGregor + pacifism + crack on a stick which actually is serious + goats + Boston = awesomeness. Now I need to go catch Public Enemies, Up and The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Sometime in the next two weeks I guess. Maybe when I finish the bigbang #2.
4. There will be a card post coming soon-ish. Either tonight or tomorrow.
5. I'm not going to throw another ton of Misha Collins fangirling on everyone again, but after the latest con I can only say two things. One, that he's so awesome that I can't even fathom. Two, that I want April to be tomorrow. Oh, and I need to add, this morning I spent twenty minutes or so staring at this. I'm sadly not lying. Misha, why, why so awesome? (and fine looking, I need to add?)
6. Aand, BOOK RECS! I have some stuff I've been reading in the last month and a half or so, but I wanted to finish a couple so I ended up doing the post just now.
a) Just After Sunset by Stephen King: so, I like when uncle Steve goes for short stories and I think this was a very good one. Not on the levels of Different Seasons, he's never going to top that one, but definitely over Nightmares and Dreamscapes at least. And I think I might have liked it better than Everything Is Eventual but I haven't read that last one in ages so they might be more or less the same wavelength. Anyway, apart from the last story which made me want to throw up in my bed, I pretty much liked them all. Some are downright creepy, some are actually very sweet (I teared up at the woman getting her dead husband to call her) and overall it was definitely good. For King stuff. Also, since it's short stories, there's the plus of the ending almost never sucking.
Fun thing for SPN people: there's a story where the protagonist is one guy who used to work in an office where there's a guy named Misha and one named Jimmy. Jimmy owns a farting pillow. Er.
b) Doghouse Roses by Steve Earle: well, this was a really great one. It's always short stories, but God, can he write them. I mean, I know that he can write some pretty kickass songs, but his writing style is just as beautiful as his lyrics. All the stories are poignant and so well crafted, and he's also very creative with plots and stuff. Except for the first which was totally autobiography. And if you know something about his life story you can see where he went autobiographical, but the whole thing is just very original and well written and it was a pleasure to read, for me at least. Also, I completely teared up at the story with the death row inmate. Not saying anything about plots and stuff, but that was a really great book. I need to find his play, dammit.
Also, I'm in love with the title. But that's another matter. Wait for me to steal it...
c) Maps And Legends by Michael Chabon: this one is all short essays and non-fiction, but if you like the man's writing it's very good. Otherwise probably non-necessary, but I really liked it. It gave a great oversight of what's behind his novels and I loved his essay about fanfiction and Sherlock Holmes. And his review of The Road, among the rest.
d) Me, Cheeta by James Lever: alright, I bought this one just out of curiosity because on the cover you had Cheetah, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall and I was like, 'what's this crack on a stick?'. Turns out it's Cheeta's autobiography. In the sense, the biography of the chimpanzee that played Cheeta in the Tarzan movies during the forties. It's completely fictionalized and after a bit of research I can safely say that it's all sorta made up, but still, it's kind of awesome. I mean, the guy totally rocked the animal POV, every remark of Cheeta's about Jane being a nuisance for Tarzan is awesome, the whole description of 40s Hollywood is incredibly perceptive/well done (Marlene Dietrich especially was written pretty realistically, from what I gather) and there were some bits which were seriously sniffing-worthy. Not what I'd describe the masterpiece of the new century but it was totally worth my ten euros.
e) M is for Magic by Neil Gaiman: so this is supposed to be stories for kids I guess, and if my cousins could actually appreciate Gaiman I'd probably buy it for them but I don't think they're the kind that would. Anyway, I bought it without knowing what it was about and I really enjoyed a lot of the stories. Some were downright creepy (the black cat one especially), there's one which was just about heartbreaking and the rest were pretty good too. I wouldn't say essential either especially since the best story is in Fragile Things already but still, it was good to read while waiting between classes.
And, I might have put another couple but that'll be for next time, I'm kind of beat and it's eleven and twenty in the evening.
Also, what's with me and all of these short stories? O_O'' I don't know why I went for them all at once.

Last Thursday I was sure I had one and I waited two hours after I finished the first before realizing that the professor said he was not going to be there this week. I mean. Not that I lost time or anything but... *sigh* though, next week I'll just have the pedagogy class one day and NOT ON FRIDAY! YAY! I'll manage to see the SPN ep in peace for once.
8. Okay, off answering comments and stuff I owe. Maybe after I'll re-post some ficlets, but I need to see if I'll still be awake. *waves*

6. I love Gaiman, but his stuff also weirds me out hardcore. I find I really have to be in the right mood to read it, and even then sometimes certain things will stick with me and gross me out later. Guess I have a sensitive brain, lol.

I mean, she was Ewan's wife and she appears like the first five minutes and a bit at the end. But she looks just gorgeous! And Ewan and George are a blast, imo.
6. Gaiman is awesome. But you're right that you need to be in the right mood. Though that book I recced is really easy compared to, idk, American Gods or Neverwhere, so at least it wasn't too much of a problem on that side. ;)
