Premise one: as stated last week, civil Theon discussion is welcomed. Theon bashing will bring ugly reactions out of me, so.. yeah. None of that, please.

Premise two: this review is a minefield of book spoilers and comparison between ACOK-book and the show. I'm gonna spoiler cut everything, but since the spoiler cut doesn't work on my cellphone I'm warning to thread carefully, especially since I'm spoiling shit up until ADWD and not small things only.

and where did you find that beast? )

And with this I'll go have lunch. Post with other tv-related reactions will happen shortly.

Lol this post is going to be 50% one thing, 45% another and 5% everything else.

I'm no lady. )

1. Okay, review time. SPN first!

spoilers )

2. Aaaand, vampire pornography!

moar spoilers )

3. Also, meme from [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7! Beware: if Jane Austen is your favorite writer and Emma is your favorite book, just scroll when I discuss that.

1. Leave a comment to this post, specifically saying that you would like a letter.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.

I got the letter E.

all endless praise except for one of them )

4. GAME OF THRONES IS BACK TODAY! :DD or well, tomorrow for me, but OMG I CAN'T DEAL. Expect flailing posts at some point tomorrow afternoon. And after I ran into [I mean LOOK AT LORAS' FACE OMG AND HER FACE I CAN'T] I might have had an attack of utter, deep flail. Gosh, if that's in episode one and I really do watch it in the uni's courtyard no one is ever going to talk to me casually ever again because there'll be scary squeeing on my side. I can't waaait.

5. And after this word-vomiting post, I'll go and try to finish my 7x17 coda fic which I've started last week and whose ending I need to figure out. Or better, I need to figure out how to get to the ending in a way that I actually like. Hopefully it's going to happen before the hiatus is over...

I suppose everyone has seen the new GOT promotional pics around, right? Right. Well then. This has to be here because I NEED IT HERE TO STARE AT IT OKAY.

LOOK AT HER OH MY I CAN'T. )

These were all supposed to be in icons, but my photoshop has decided that it needs to crash like a car going thrice the speed limit which also kept me from posting about Bonnie today & yesterday since I had posts heavy on graphics in program. as soon as it works again...

So, you get the next best thing.

I went around on the internet fishing for quotes to icon and I sadly realized that the one quote of Brienne's that is everywhere is the one about always being summer in songs. Which wasn't going to fly. So I picked up the books and went searching by hand. Most of these are from ACOK and ASOS because it took me two hours to get through those two and it wasn't even her POV, so the ones from AFFC I had because I had noted them in other occasions, but I might do an edition of AFFC later when I do meta about it. For now, get a selection of Brienne quotage with yours truly's running commentary.

A Clash of Kings

- I am not made to be a mother. I need to fight. [she knows what she's good at. If you ask me she'd make a good mother too, but I love that with her it's not really the point.]

you will call me Brienne, not wench. )

In the next episode, hopefully icons. Or a fanmix. If photoshop doesn't keep on dying. Or the AFFC meta if it does.

aand, welcome to the follow up to yesterday's meta and to day two of my Brienne appreciation week for [livejournal.com profile] womenlovefest.

Spoiler warning stays the same - up to AFFC.

what Brienne is, at least according to me. )

In the next meta episode, probably another way too long post on how Brienne’s POVs aren’t boring and aren’t a drag, and how she surely doesn’t deserve to die for having so many.

I try my best to be just like I am, but everybody wants you to be just like them.
Maggie's Farm, Bob Dylan*

*this song couldn't fit less with ASOIAF generally, but those lines keep on screaming Brienne to me for some reason and it felt like a proper opening.

Or: hi and welcome to day one of Brienne appreciation for [livejournal.com profile] womenlovefest. My first day ended up being some very wordy meta that was probably so wordy because I've been thinking Brienne meta for a month and never wrote it down. Actually it got too long so I'm splitting it in two parts.

In my for now mostly lurking time around ASOIAF, the most bashing I’ve seen about Brienne mostly consists in the following arguments (from what I’ve seen): a) she’s boring and her POVs drag (probably shouldn’t be considered strictly bashing, but if you wish a character dead because their POVs are dragging I’d say it is), b) she’s too naïve to survive in a place like Westeros (and therefore unrealistic), c) she’s there just to be Jaime’s moral compass and the rest of her story is a waste of space, d) she’s there to appeal to feminist readers only (and therefore she’s useless). I haven’t seen anything about her having to just stay home and marry, but I’m sure it has to be somewhere. Considering that I hadn’t thought any of that while reading the books in a row this summer, I was kind of baffled by most of these. So I figured I could start addressing these (except her POVs dragging because I’m planning to do meta on that specifically).

Spoilers up to AFFC (mostly for her backstory - though there are some pretty huge ones - and for someone she meets – for the rest, strictly facts-related spoilers are up to ASOS).

What Brienne is not, or at least not according to me. )

In the next meta episode tomorrow (er, later today for me): three things that, according to me, Brienne is and that are imo overlooked half of the time.

Basically: you go there, claim a female character that you feel needs some love/gets fandom bashing and for that week you post something about them each day. I thought it was a lovely idea. Which is why next week you'll be subjected to daily posts about Bonnie from the Vampire Diaries and Brienne from ASOIAF. I think there's a few people on my FL who might be interested or at least want to check who is getting meta written for, so I'll just leave this here. :)
