1. First thing, quick fic rec for anyone who might be interested (idk how many on here are into both, but it's so brilliant I have to share): this is an ASOIAF/Father Ted crossover where Stannis, Renly and Robert are priests living on Craggy Island and it's the most beautiful crossover that ever crossovered in every history of crossovers. Seriously. You don't have to be familiar with Father Ted to crack up, though if you are it's funnier. Okay, there it is. You won't regret it.

2. That said, I SAID I WAS GOING TO DO EPISODE REACTIONS AGAIN and I'm doing it. Okay, SPN time since no vampire porn this week.

spoilers )

3. Two GRRM-related things: seriously. IS THERE SOMEONE WHO READS WILD CARDS other than me in the universe? Seriously, I spent Easter reading throughout books sixteen and seventeen and it's just - so many delish characters and I have at least four otps TWO OF WHICH ARE CANON AND CURRENTLY LIVING HAPPILY EVER AFTER and while it does have the asoiaf realism/angst (as much as superhero books can have) CHARACTERS ACTUALLY GET TO BE HAPPY MOST TIMES even if they get through hell first, and there's canon queer/interractial/interspecies relationships and okay while some parts are seriously WTF or tacky or irrationally gross as a whole IT'S REALLY REALLY GOOD D: and I can't find fic or a fandom or ANYTHING except a forum that is updated every two months, whyyyyy.

4. Second GRRM-related thing: if I have any Theon fans on here who are on tumblr but we don't follow each other, me and a friend on there will hopefully be hosting a week of ridiculous Theon fangirling in mid-May because seriously the hate on the guy is pretty horrible atm and it'll just get worse as the season progresses so if anyone's interested, we'd love to have you. ;)

5. In other news: I spent Easter between despairing over my grandmother (whom I love but the more time passes the more I'm convinced that she'll never understand that life doesn't equate obligatory valley of tears) and feeling like some old person because my ten year-old cousin spent like half an hour speaking about how in his class people get caught for hiding their i-pods in their shoes, can't use their cellphones or *i-pads* in class etcetera etcetera. At which my basic reactions were: 'WHY would you buy your ten year-old an iphone or an ipad or ANYTHING LIKE THAT' and 'fuck when I was ten we didn't even bring our frigging *walkman* to school and we didn't spend time during classes playing Angry Birds'. Which probably explains a lot of things, but still, I'm too young to feel like an old woman and wish that kids these days would just go and read Treasure Island under their desk instead of playing Angry Birds, if they really have to not pay attention.

... damn, I sound like my grandmothers used to sound when I was seven. Brb, getting drunk.

6. I also had a sort of half-high school reunion. Half in the sense that just half of the people were present, and most of them were people I never talked to. But for some miracle it actually went decently, we got nicely buzzed (even if the beer I had was good enough to keep me awake until 4 AM even if the entire thing was over at 2...) and idek, apparently it took five years to get past the stage where people forget how much they used to dislike each other in HS but it was nicer than I thought it'd be.

That said, I'm also apparently too old to get buzzed and then go to bed at five AM because the morning after I woke up at like 11.30 AM and I wanted to spend the entire day in bed.

7. The politics around here are getting so depressing that I can't even fathom it. Not any news, but still, when you think you can't get worse IT GETS WORSE.

8. At least, I found a recipe for strawberry muffins which works like a charm. Now if only I had a chance to use said muffins to charm the Richard Madden lookalike haunting my university who appears in there once every two years or so, my life would be awesome. Again: why don't I know how to flirt? Because I'd have done that three months ago, if I had.

9. In more interesting book-related news, I'm three chapters into Fifty Shames of Earl Gray and it was deliciously hilarious. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes on, because if the rest is as good as the first three chapters, it's going to be the funniest thing I've read in ages.

10. Aaand since I have nothing else of import, I'll just leave you with this, which is arguably the best piece of live music that I've heard in the last six months that wasn't a concert I was attending. You're welcome. ;)

janie_tangerine: (the vampire porn damon 2.0)
1. Exam two on five is done! Now if I can just keep up the average that I managed to get this round I'll be a happy person. Other than that, it has snowed for the first time in years! Like, seriously snowed with the snow lasting for three days. And obviously since our mayor is an idiot, the city is half-paralyzed and today they closed everything even if it has snowed on Friday. And obviously public transport isn't working either. *facepalm*

2. And since this weekend I stayed holed up to finish an exchange fic that ended up being 28k and I didn't manage to do reaction posts, have some TV blathering under the cuts. SPN, vampire porn, Luck and some Ringer headdesking.

a) Ringer 1x10/11(getting the crappy stuff out of the way first): okay, this isn't gonna need spoiler cuts because I can't even take it seriously enough, but I can't wait for Misha to do that episode so I can quit watching it. The last two episodes were... the epitome of abysmal. I mean, my most basic reaction is is everyone in this show completely dumb?, and the fact that the only person who showed some smarts lately is the bff's husband says all. Also cut for potentially triggering subjects ie non-consensual sex )

b) Luck: no spoiler cuts since this is just general impression, but is anyone else watching this? Horse races/betting isn't really my thing but since a) it's David Milch's idea, b) Dustin Hoffmann is in it c) Michael Mann directed the pilot I figured I'd give it a try. I thought it was pretty good even if it's not at the awesome level that Deadwood was (at least at the pilot level) and in the only episode I watched it was all about characters, but the second looked more fast-paced and the acting is actually excellent, so I guess I'll stick around and give it a chance. Heck, I still haven't quit Ringer and that one is just bad, this one actually has good premises...

c) SPN 7x13 the splice girls - spoilers )

d) Vampire porn 3x13 bringing out the dead )

3) Also, in the midst of all the Plato I had to read I managed to finish this non-ASOIAF novel by GRRM which I think deserves a bit of a rec if only because it's.. well, an interesting read at least. Or well, I bought it mostly because when you tell me that it's a novel about a former rock journalist turned writer who lives wondering where his generation went wrong in the seventies and ends up investigating a murder that is related to some cursed rock band named NAZGUL and which could be the trigger for the apocalypse... well, color me intrigued.

by the way, it's named The Armageddon Rag )

4. Also, I managed to see J. Edgar obviously months after the rest of the world saw it and apart from some questionable choices in make-up department... Clint Eastwood, just never stop making movies okay. Clearly it got Oscar-snubbed too (seriously, poor Leo deserved a nomination at least), but whatever, I loved it. ♥

5. Random music rec for Bob Dylan fans (and well, look at the list and see if there's someone you like): Amnesty International has produced this OMG SO MANY SONGS compilation thing named Chimes of Freedom where.. well, a bunch of people cover Bob Dylan songs and that you can buy on their site for a total convenient price (20 dollars for all 78 songs, 25 dollars for the cd or you can buy individual mp3s). Apart from being for a good cause.. well, while there's something in there that is questionable at best (I still don't know how I feel aboutMiley Cyrus or about Kesha covering Don't Think Twice, It's All Right...) there are some damn awesome covers (IE: Patti Smith doing Drifter's Escape, Gaslight Anthem doing Changing of the Guards, Mark Knopfler doing Restless Farewell, Flogging Molly doing The Times, They're a Changin' & Pete Seeger doing Forever Young, and there are also the likes of Jackson Browne, Nils Lofgren AND Paul Rodgers [which sent me into heaven], Lucinda Williams, Kris Kristofferson and Steve Earle; also I think there are a couple new groups I want to check out just based on how they did Hattie Carroll) and it really is a bargain, so I figured I'd leave the link here. Also all the money goes for a good cause, so..

6. Okay, I'll now go deleting all the spam comments that LJ has seen fit to send my way lately (if they want me to be frustrated with them, they're doing it right...) and amusing myself with the porn battle prompts for this round that I have eyed today. There's been some awesome stuff posted already. :D *goes eyeing prompts*
janie_tangerine: (turn it up)
1. Hi! *waves* Gosh, I haven't posted in a while. Blame Misha and his scavenger hunting thing. If it doesn't get into the Guinness World Record I'll feel cheated. (I don't even care about winning - I just want it to make it into the record. XD) Also: thanks Misha for making me find out that there's a lot of pictures of Hillary Clinton looking kind of drunk all over the internet. I really needed to know that.

2. There are still three unguessed ships for the ship meme, so have some hints.

3 is from a uber-famous book that was a uber-famous movie, but the scene I was quoting is only in the book. it wasn't even in the extended edition of the movie...
12 is direct quoting. It's a book first (there's a movie, too). It's absolutely canon.
15 is a UK show in which 99% of the viewers ships one half of the pairing with another person.

3. ASOIAF/GOT peole, there's a comment fic meme going on here. If any of you is inclined to participate/leave some prompts go check it out. :D (beware: it's for books & show so there are spoilery prompts but the book is indicated in the subject header so it should be pretty safe. Still, thread with care.)

4. Music related, one: ME AND [livejournal.com profile] lasamy HAVE TICKETS FOR SPRINGSTEEN IN JUNE. But I'll probably also go visit [livejournal.com profile] pnr in July and see him again if it goes through. BRUCE TWICE IN A YEAR :DDDD 2012 you already shape up to be good.

5. Music related, two: so, Joe Pug, aka the guy who opened the last Steve Earle concert that I attended and who I really really like has a live record for sale on his site for five bucks which also is comprehensive of most of his stuff that I like so I figured I'd pimp it out. He has a very nice voice and he makes some lovely music, so if you're into (good) soft country rock I'll leave it here.

6. Betaing related, take two: I might have this covered at least for only the grammar aspect, but is there anyone around who's both into SPN and the vampire diaries who'd look over my crossover exchange fic aka a Cas/Rebekah fic of the NC17 variety? Has spoilers until SPN 7x02 and the latest vampire porn ep.

7. Quick spoiler free TV round-up: H50 is getting definitely a lot better, ridiculousness aside (and welcome back, John Locke School of Getting Shit Done!). Ringer: ...well, I didn't even understand that it was on hiatus, but I still think it's the bad kind of ridiculous up to this point. Hell on Wheels: getting a whole lot better. I'm really digging it. The only thing I don't dig is Colm Meaney's character. Whenever he's on, I miss Ian McShane. Boardwalk Empire: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG WTF HAPPENED LAST EPISODE OMG. If anyone wants to discuss in comments, feel free to do so after a spoiler alert. Vampire porn: I MISS IT. SPN: I have to review the latest ep still but it was awesome except for the last two minutes. Ben Edlund never leave me and keep on making me forget the crap that was 7x08. Chuck: awww show I'll miss you when you're gone. Also JEFFSTER WHY YOU MAKE ME SUFFER SO.

And this stated, my uncle finally managed to give me my birthday present which was supposed to be the first two Sopranos season. Then I saw that he got me also third and fourth. Which means, at some point massive Sopranos catching up will happen.

8. My Yuletide assignment is GLORIOUS. I'm gleeing just at the thought.

9. I'm sure I had something else to say but it's past one AM and yesterday I went to bed at four thanks to Misha Collins and gishwhes and the likes, so I think this is it for now. Expect a christmas card post tomorrow or Thursday though. :)

1. First thing, birthdays grab-bag since there's a bunch of people having some yesterday/today/tomorrow and seen my track record lately it isn't a given that I'll manage a post each day, lol. Also tomorrow I'll probably end up spamming with old fic or posting new stuff so I figure I'll do it now.

So, happy birtdhay in advance to: [livejournal.com profile] emiliglia and [livejournal.com profile] dastiel_gal for tomorrow and [livejournal.com profile] aurilly and [livejournal.com profile] eide_oconrad for the 28th! ♥ I hope that you all have great days and the great years that you all totally deserve to get and that they're full of amazing things ♥. And if any of you wants to send a prompt my way I'll see what I can do after I go through my WIP folder. (which means you'll probably have a surprise like six months from now. *cough*)

2. Aand have some memes! First one, tagged by [livejournal.com profile] virtual_toast:

* People who have been tagged must write the answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new, original question.
* Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

under here! )

3. Theeen, music meme. [livejournal.com profile] elliotsmelliot gave me R and [livejournal.com profile] joyyjpg gave me C.

Comment with "MUSIC ME", I'll give you a letter between A-Z, and you go post 5 8 (because I say so) favorite songs/music videos that start with that letter.

list with downloads )

4. Life has been fairly uneventful lately. The fact that I don't go to the cinema anymore because the huge one giving movies in original language with subtitles has closed just made it even less eventful, and going like once each month when I manage feels massively weird. Though I've been reading a bunch of stuff which is fairly good at least because I'm actually finishing books instead of starting too many and not finishing anything.

5. Also my favorite class this year includes doing group work (eeeek!), except that no one else wants to work on the article I volunteered for. I just hope it's a question of subject, but tbh while I hate group work I don't even want to explain shit about ancient greek philosophy on my own or at least without someone to share the blame with if I say crap. xD Also I have to stop myself from snorting whenever Anaximander is mentioned, which is becoming a problem. Also last day we were supposed to download a program while in class -- the speed was 6.6 kbs per second. Obviously no one managed. Clearly universities can't afford a decent wireless..

6. Also uhm how is everyone doing with notifications? Because I'm sure I received a huge backlog but not a bunch from the first three days of the fiasco. Am I the only one? *looks around*

7. Anyway, going to work on a post about stuff to do/see in Rome which I had promised to some JIB-headed friends and possibly finish some more fic and feeling like I'm not slacking off while masterfully avoiding to think about the group work possible fiasco.

First thing before the bullet points, happy extremely late birthday to [livejournal.com profile] marylou_gr! Sorry but on your day I was knee-deep in studying and since I actually did the exam I didn't have time to do an entry. :/ I hope you had an awesome day!! <3 And if you want to prompt me with anything I'll see what I can do.

1. I PASSED THE DAMNED MEDIEVAL PHILOSOPHY THING. \o/ I didn't exactly ace it but I wasn't wanting to ace it. I just wanted to pass it and I got a decent grade out of that too so totally not complaining here. I can't believe I'm done with it, ohgod. I don't even care that I need to do another three before I'm done with this term. I can bask in the feeling of being done for another couple days at least, lol.

2. Wherein I rec Nick Hornby's last book, Jordan Zevon's record, more or less, and A Single Man, more or less. )

4. Memes to pass the time! This from [livejournal.com profile] gottalovev.

Comment and I'll pick three of your fandoms and post the answers to your journal and so on and so forth. I got Lost, SPN and Watchmen.

answers! )

5. The icon meme redux because [livejournal.com profile] hopelessfangirl tagged me again but I'm not re-doing it as a whole. ;)

blathering, again. )

6. Blah, I wrote a lot less for the lostsquee fic battle than I'd have liked, but the last week I basically buried myself in St. Thomas. I'd have rather written fic, but I did chunk out at least seven ficlets so I guess I'll be satisfied with that. And I'll finish the two I had started and didn't manage to finish asap.

7. Lost is back in three days for me, YAY!!! Damn you all Americans/Canadians who get it in two, lol. But it's kind of fun that now I'll get to see it on Wednesday which was the usual day for everyone else. Anyway. I'm hopeful and confident that this season will be better than S5, mostly because a) doing better than S5 can't be too hard and b) SPOILERS ). Even if damn, I don't know if I'm ready for it to be the last season but whatever, for now I won't let it creep up on me.

8. Okay, this has probably got too long already so I'll cut it here and, uh, either go writing or collapse to bed with some book. Damn, I should have gone slower with Nick Hornby and make it last at least two days, I just realized I don't have anything light or relaxing at hand. Ah well, I'll see. *waves*

1. So today I was at this record store and they had more or less near each other Chinese Democracy and The Songs of Pete Seeger vol II featuring a cover by Steve Earle. Guess what I bought, same price?

2. And then there's the mini bio inside and they say that determined to be his own man, Steve Earle has walked through his personal and professional fire and emerged as a fearlessly independent musician and human being. Seriously, that's awesome. Apart from the fact that is true, but still. I love Steve Earle. I seriously do. And that record is all kinds of awesome.

blathering of the Lucinda Williams, Nanowrimo and Supernatural kind + ficcing poll because I need stuff to write in pauses from lectures and I'm undecided. )

If you don't like/don't care about the current Guns n' Roses, feel absolutely free to skip the following section. It isn't nice. Not really. And it's just me stating what I already knew.

my review done in the fairest possible way. )

Then. I watched two movies this week. First was Rules of Attraction some days ago, the other was Changeling today. Regarding the first... well, it's worth for His Prettiness going around with pro-masturbation t-shirt, being pretty and being absolutely and utterly gay. Oh, and dancing in his underwear. The rest was kind of plain disgusting and it was definitely one of the most pretentious movies I've ever seen. Said it all. Not recommended if you're not into His Prettiness. While The Changeling, oh, OH, GOD. Best movie I've seen all this year.

rambling review because I'm still sort of shaken. Seriously. I'll try not to spoil too much. )

Cheers if you read all of this post and arrived to the end ;) and now I'm getting on the novel. Or trying to, if I don't end up procrastinating. And BTW, mood is ecstatic because of The Changeling. If this had been just the Chinese Democracy review, it'd have been something like discontent or aggravated.
